whats going on in this country?
34 Answers
44 years old, born and bred in this country, but god am I ****** off with whats happening to us now. Surely I can't be alone in thinking that if you work, pay your taxes, drive a car,own a house, just the normal things we all aspire to, then this government will try to make things as hard for you as they can. But if you've never worked, or on say disability benefits through some imagined illness that no doctor can prove, or even better if you're some scumbag junkie who's robbed houses, mugged people and totally destroyed other peoples lives, well don't worry cos you're the victim aren't you...its societys fault after all..no one can be blamed for anything anymore, we can't victimise any member of society cos big brother Blair wants us all to be equals in his great politically correct diverse society that he and his social engineering policies have left us with.
Well as George Orwell said: everyone is equal, but some people are more equal than others, Blair and his cronies, and every politician come to think of it, just don't have a clue what life is like in everyday Britain do they? They don't have to lock themselves in at night like millions of people afraid cos some junkie looking for money for his next fix, will break in, you can't even go for a drink at night now cos if you look at someone the wrong way you're likely to get a pint glass in the face..Immigration is running unchecked, we're letting all the scum of the earth in..I could go on but i'm getting more and more angry as I write this, so let me hear your opinions, and let me know if you agree or disagree with me.

I pay high rate income tax, full council tax, vehicle tax, fuel bills, water bills, without moaning too much about it. I keep myself to myself, do not commit crime. I have never needed any help from the state. There are a good few million like me.
Now then. If I should lose my job, my house, my wife, my cars, my dignity, is this government going to look after me any better than someone who has contributed sod all?
No, because no one in this country is rewarded for being a model citizen.

Englishbird - Parkardbells origional post was from the point of view of someone who owns his own home, car etc. He was playing the victim card and using his victimhood to make vicious attacks on less privilaged groups such as junkies or immigrants. So the replys about holidays and going for a beer were really intended to show him how ridiculous it was to paint himself as the victim.
Your situation is different to this as you state you are struggling, but you cannot use the fact that you are struggling to attack other groups who are commonly percieved as struggling.

I do understand your point, but I think my point is that part of the reason that I'm struggling is because of the government, not inspite of it. We can't make everyone equal by improving their lives, so we're going to make everyone equal by dragging them all down?
packardbell, myself and others who feel like this may sometimes use the wrong arguments to explain how we are being made to feel.
It's not that we mean to attack anyone else, it's that we feel that we are being targetted, but that we're supposed to just shut up and take it.
Don't get me wrong, I am not on the poverty line, but my situation is getting worse by the year, I'm 31 and have been working since I was 16. I should be aiming towards something, least of which to be financially secure myself. The current situation is not allowing me to do this, far less - I am working for nothing.

I agree 100% with packardbell
1. I DO read the Daily Mail
2. I DO work (NHS)......all the hours God sends for VERY LITTLE reward both financiially & vocationally.
3.I DO fear for my childrens & my own safety in this dog eat dog society
All may be my PERCEPTION of the situation but no less REAL
I am a glass half full type of person (you cannot work in the NHS without being so) but to be unaware of what is going on in our society is extremely dangerous
PS you dont have to be in a pub to feel that you're likely to receive a glass on the face.........it's more likely to be when
you are just doing your JOB.

thanks for your support everyone, and those who think I'm wrong well thats ok by me.
But just remember that we have freedom of speech at the moment(just) but it is in danger from this government. National databases on everyone, i.d cards, no right to demonstrate outside parliament, compulsory attendance of diversity courses so we can all be the same.
The only thing is, that although I detest Blair, whats the alternative? Cameron is a complete turd, and the lib dems are just a joke. Any suggestions?

I own my own house, and pay all the subsequent bills that come with the 'privilege' of doing so. I have a car and a motorbike, which are both taxed, insured etc, I pay water rates, waste water charges, council tax, income tax and VAT where applicable. None of this is the fault of anyone but myself. I chose to opt for being in 10s of thousands of pounds of debt, so that later in life I can relax safe and secure in the knowledge of never having had to rely on ANY shyster government to help me out. It does make me wantto scream when the government then turn round and tax me into a corner for striving to do my best just so they can throw money at stupid, vote winning schemes to support those too idle to get up and do something for themselves.
The two taxes I detest most are
1. Insurance premium tax ~ basically a tax for being prudent enough to ensure your possessions are covered in case some scumbag steals or vandalises them, or an accident befalls you.
2. VAT on domestic fuel ~ In effect the poxy government are saying that it's a luxury to heat your house!

I agree mostly with packardbell & englishbird. But what gets me mad is the lies we are fed everyday by the most corrupted government this country has had in living memory.
all Blair & brown think about is how much more money the can squeeze out of the law abiding working classes ( and by that I mean people who actually work) I DO NOT want to pay my taxes, charges & fines so other people can sit on their fat backsides and do nothing except going down to the road in their untaxed, uninsured ,un m.o.t.ed deathtrap cars & buy smuggled fags(untaxed) & drink(untaxed). I know loads of people from all walks of life & classes in my WORKING life from cornwall to london and at lest 50% of those that try to make a decent living for them selves want to get out of this country. THIS GOVERMENT DOES NOT REPRESENT THE ORDIARY WORKING PEOPLE OF THIS COUNTRY
