TESCO Clubcard loophole and the PC
Pc Shaun Pennicott discovered that it was possible to claim loyalty points fraudulently at Tesco stores. He visited stores repeatedly so he could exploit a loophole in the Tesco Clubcard scheme that allows a customer to scan repeatedly the same voucher at self-service tills.

Of course, it was dishonest behavour so it cannot be condoned, but Tesco say they knew about the situation and it wasn't worth them modifying the machines.
Cheaper to take people to court than make their machines secure. Arrogant or good business practice?

But it seems reasonable to do this only up to a certain point and then rely on the rest of the world to abide by the law and not burgle us. PC Pennicott broke the law. It's wrong to blame the victim, even if they're as wealthy as Tesco.
... perhaps Tesco (PR dept or even their PC dept) did not advised against taking a PC to court over this (or any other matter) matter ..
the PC would have got off ...
.... as police speeding drivers do when caught by cameras (even when not on police business that necessitates driving at speed) and even when such 'breaking of the law' results in an innocent being killed.
