Is it not time that American parents stood up and be counted? Everyone is being quick to blame the police for this incident but the real culprit is the American constitution. This is just one incident in a series and it wont be the last. America needs to change it's culture, they won't change it overnight but maybe it will save future generations if they act now! What are your opinions on who is to blame and what can be done?

These are two separate issues though.

One is about the US's massive hard on for guns and their availability etc and the other is about whether the police response to this particular tragedy was appropriate.

It's not a case of either/or.
Unfortunately, Americans don't all agree on what the Second Amendment means, so the rest of us have little chance of doing so. I have always thought that it is being misused in order to protect private persons carrying and using guns, and that the original meaning is the right of citizens to join a properly trained militia in defence of their country.

Customer: Can I have a gun please?

Shopkeeper: Yes

End of story...

Agree with WaldoMcFroog that it is two different issues and ultimately I blame the maniac wielding the guns.

Unfortunatly the right to bear arms is so deeply inbedded in the american psyche and legal system ,it would be nearly impossible to retract something that the bible-belt conservatives of the south and mid-west see as a god-given right. The constitution is like the ten commandments...the rights that it lays down can never be changed. Organizations like the NRA;;;National Rifle Association...have a vested interest in protecting this 'right' ...and they have numerous supporters in both the House and the Senate. It's never their kids who are slaughtered. And this won't be the last time. I can only say that I am ashamed of my country and glad that I did not bring up my daughter in that political climate.
they can't get it into their thick skulls that guns are killing machines, they are so far off of reality it hurts, still living and same mentality as wild west days, you got a gun i got a bigger one, and so it'll go on. next time it may be 300 dead but they still stand by this notion of right to carry arms, bulls**t!
agree ned like the name by the way it is so easy to blame the police i mean what could they have done the campus was so big everyone was panicking , americans can have guns in their homes and this should not be allowed , there are so many lunatics and all them poor people and their famillies its so sad
