Why was it deemed necessary for a senior police officer to emotionaly read out a statement on behalf of the family of The 3 murder victims, Beverley Samuals, Kesha and Fred Wizzart?

Was this a PR exercise, or a true showing of coming together by the Police, with the Black Community?

there really is no need for any racial harmony excersise by the police with any community this is a tragic event whether they be black,white,gay or whatever denomination.

i only heard of this on the radio, i didn;t know what skin colour they had, i was just very upset for thier poor dad who's words made him sound like a very loving father and husband.

Maybe it is simply that the family asked the Police if they would read it out, because it was too emotional for them to say what they wanted everybody to know - and perhaps the Police were trying to be sympathetic and helpful? Not every situation is a PR spin opportunity

Maybe I'm not understanding the question, but isn't this a common and perfectly understandable policing technique?

Highlighting the anguish of the victims or their families encourages those with information to come forward. They do it all the time. What's wrong with that?

I think AOG/stokemaveric are trying to say that the police are cynical and heartless - using the event as a PR exercise.

I didn't even know the victims were black. I don't recall it being mentioned when I heard about the murders on the radio.

In the past I have seen senior officers making public statements on behalf of families.

Do you think that perhaps with a crime like this, the police simply felt it was appropriate to read out a statement on behalf of the family?

If it were a white family, would you question the police? Remember - there were no racial overtones to the crime...so can you explain why you felt it was inappropriate, because I don't geddit.
