before the general public decide that they have to protect them selves? Do you get the sense that society is on the brink of a terrifying vigilante phase? History shows that when the general public feel unsafe they take the law into their own hands. Why won't the uthorities do something about the sub human slime inhabiting our streets? we've tried the softly softly Liberal ideas, time to get tough!

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.no, I walk the mean streets most days without seeing any vigilantes or any criminals either. I know some exist, as some always have, and I know people are occasionally hurt or even killed. But road deaths, for instance, are far more common. I don't advocate banning cars - it's more that you just know the dangers and take due care (don't ride in unlicensed cars, don't cross roads without looking etc). Same for city living. Why are people so ready to live in fear and anger?
The streets are generally safe, but as everyone knows there is always one. I do not believe there are more gangs hanging around than when i was a kid some twenty years ago.
The main problem is that todays kids have no respect, years ago you would have legged it if an adult told you to clear off, now the youths scream foul abuse and assault people.
This is everyones problem, we all need to instill better values to our kids and show them the correct way to behave in public. This is a tragic case that sadly seems to repeat itself all too often.

I don't think that society is on the brink of a terrifying vigilante phase? Juvenile delinquency is nothing new. The problem was probably worse in Victorian times when the first borstals and correctional institution were built in the UK.

"19th Century reports commented on the swarms of ragged children infesting the metropolis, the investigations of social and penal reformers were heavily influenced by what might be called a hard-core of juvenile offenders. These were youths, overwhelmingly boys, who were found in London, at Newgate and Coldbath Fields prisons, in the houses of correction at Tothill Fields and Clerkenwell, in the courts of the Old Bailey and Westminster. Discussion of juvenile offenders in other parts of the country did occur the factory increasingly became the focus as a site of disorder and delinquency, while the work of the Reverend John Clay with prisoners in Preston in the 1840s was referred to frequently. Significantly, however, the parliamentary debate was coloured by an understanding of metropolitan delinquency. Thus, in the early nineteenth century, juvenile crime in a London setting tended to dominate the construction of the young offender. This was further consolidated by prevalent stereotypes of London pickpockets and thieves."
The unwillingness of the police to deal with unruly youths is very disappointing. Where I live, there is a problem, but the police are scared - iof the paperwork involved.

well from you jake that's a compliment. Do you have any solutions then? Oh yes send them on Safari, I remember that one, that really taught them some respect. Trouble with you lefties is that you make Vlad the impaler look like a pacifist of someone does something bad to you but you won't lift a finger or indeed entertain any non liberal thoughts for the public in general. So someone close to you get's beaten to death, would that make you do something? Yes it probably would.
I really feel for this family who have lost a good man, father, husband etc.I dont really care how old these yobs are, society can well do without them and their ilk. They should be incarcerated for the rest of their lives. They should be made an example of so others get the message and please dont anyone go on about their youth or their lives in front of them. This mayhem has got to stop. Before anyone asks if it were my son-no different!!!
I will guarantee that this type of crime committed by these low life scumbags would be virtualy eliminated if the birch was reintroduced, but i suppose all the limp wristed liberals would start to shout its barbaric and inhumane, unlike unruly yobs killing decent innocent people, leaving families devestated, thats ok , i once heard on the radio one of the limp brigade say, we should not punish these people, it is more important that we try to find out why they commit this sort of crime, i rest my case.
