New Thames Barrier

The news today says that London is possibly going to get another flood barrier costing a whopping �20 billion (which will end up as �30 billion, I'm sure)

The North was hit very hard this year with the flooding but the drains are not going to be improved or the building on flood plains stopped.

London, London, London, I am sick of hearing about the place. I know that it is the financial capital and there is a lot of major business there, but, people out side the M25 pay taxes as well and should be entitled to such defences or improvements.

Granted, but they pay the same taxes as everyone else, so surely deserve the same effort in defending their home.

Yeah your right in a way Neil, but there has to be priority's on where the money is spent and the capital takes presedence.
I know it was awful what happened in the midlands but can you imagine if that happened in London...

Well know they have seen the devastation, they should fix all the areas defense for when the rains come again.

I don't think so. Risk management just doesn't work like that. You take away as much of the risk as you can afford. At the end of the day, that's Government's job to decide how much risk to afford. Cerain properties are at a higher risk. That's life
