Steve Fossett Conspiracy Theories
15 Answers
OK so what have you heard? I've heard the possibility that he might have strayed into restricted airspace over the Nellis ranges or Groom lake and was either intercepted and forced to land or even shot down! What will they think of next...
Anyone heard any more?

No. The guy didn't file a flight plan. Ergo, he is probably dead. Sad but true. More than like down to mechanical trouble or adverse weather conditions. As the search for him continued, you will have seen that a good number of other aircraft that had also crashed in the area had been spotted. Some of these being decades old. No conspiracy, just a wilderness.
It would appear that the amazon mechanical turk search has covered the whole area a few times over and although they've found a few other wrecks (some decades old), they haven't found fossett. I'm not entirely sure how large the search area for mechanical turk was though... About 60k images I think of 7,225m2 each so approx 433 million sqm.
