Motto for the UK?
BBC1 6pm news tonight featured an article about a suitable motto for the UK, a short, pithy statement summing up the character of the UK,suitable for printing on passports, currency etc.
Examples given were of the USA (In God We Trust), France (Liberty,Equality, Brotherhood) and Belgium (Strength through Unity) .
As the contributors here cover such a broad cross section of the political and social spectrum, I thought it might be interesting to hear any suggestions you might be able to come up with :)

But surely that is why the motto is for the 'United Kingdom'.......to illustrate our similarities rather than to highlight our differences..........?
.........we rarely get to hear any more than the first verse and chorus of 'God Save the Queen', in any case. And it has been played at such a dirge-like pace that it sounds dreary rather than rousing.

TCL, I refer to the large amounts of non-English people who are happy to live here for work and slate the country and its people, bang on about how great their country is without actually ever returning home. Corby is an ideal example of the enmasse economic migration of people from Scotland who came down for work in the steel industry. I can see why people dont get along with England or the English but lets not hear about it.

There are many English folk who slate their own country and in fact in the same post you wrote, " I can see why people dont get along with England or the English but lets not hear about it.

There is regular movement between the countries

Where was the steel industry in Corby prior to Lloyds and Stewart & Lloyds coming here? Och thats right, there wasnt one.
