Smoking whilst driving is now banned!
My neighbour is up in arms about this saying that 'they should let me smoke as I get irritable if I can't have a fag'!
I have been in the car with her when she smokes and quite honestly she cannot control the car properly when she lights up. Why are (some) smokers so inconsiderate?

god, you'd think there were no crimes needing solved - smoking again? what the hell next, cant smoke in public places, in enclosed spaces, at work, in your own home if a workman is due to arrive, in your bl@@dy car now?
if we all gave up the country's economy would take a nose dive, we pay enough taxes on our fags
and yeah plenty of folk are still driving and holding a mobile phone to their ear and I have never ever seen any one of them pulled up for it but Ive seen plenty of folk attempting dangerous u-turns whilst talking on their mobile
they should lay off the smokers for once, we're hardly criminals

I don't think anyone has mentioned those drivers who in the summer, must have the window down, and then hold onto the roof of their cars with one hand, while strumming to their music on the steering wheel, with their other hand.
Other times I have seen them with their arm out of the window, and using the outside door panel as a drum.

Here's the deal.
I smoke in my car.
MY car.
I've smoked longer than I've been driving.
I'm typing this whilst smoking - with both hands apart from the two fingers holding the cigarette.
My keypad is full of ash.
MY keypad.
I don't smoke if I have a non smoking passenger.
I don't take my eyes off the road when I stub out the cigarette in the ashtray - I throw them out of the window instead - never letting the road slip from view.My windscreen is nicotine coated - a rather pleasant amber effect in the low winter sun.
I drive safely 99% of the time.
On those rare occasions all of us have from time to time when for some unknown reason I'm driving like a chimp,(You know what I mean - trying to pull away from lights in 3rd gear, doing 35mph through a speed trap that I know is there) I could be stopped by the police for driving without due care and attention. If the officer thinks this was caused by me smoking then I will be prosecuted. On this basis I intend to keep on smoking in my car - perhaps investing in the tinted windows so beloved of the local drug dealers.
If the law offers me the same immunity as them I'll be safe.

This itemabout smoking being illegal whilst driving, as you don't have control of the car. Does that also mean you can't change gear?? Surely you only have one hand on the wheel at the time. I for one will not stop smoking whilst driving. Talk about 'NANNY STATE' gone mad. What next, don't use tumble dryers as you might burn yourself?
