Immigrant workers are both higher paid and more reliable than their British counterparts and contributed 6 billion to economic growth last year, a Government study said yesterday.

Is relying on immigration to boost the economy is a short-term answer?

Actually, there's a bit of a contradiction here....

I cannot remember where I read this online but there has been a study which says Eastern European immigrant workers work harder than British counterparts but African Immigrant workers work less than British workers.

So they'll have to put in an immigration filter if they want to boost economy. I'll look around to see where I found this article.
The heading of your question wouldn't suprise me.

I take exception to being stigmatised as a member of a group that has a poorer work ethic than another gorup. I have worked continously for over 45 years. I have worked hard, diligently, honestly and loyally for all of that time. I have struggled through snow, storm, transport strikes and illness to get to work.

I think the report's authors simply want us to do more work for less pay.
I tach Eastern European workers English and I can confirm that they do work hard. Most start their first job of the day either cleaning or waiting on in hotels, then they do the lunch and in the afternoon, which at the hotel would be freetime, they work cleaning at a local school. That finishes at 7pm when they go back to the hotel to serve or clear up after dinner. One day a week they come to my class from 7 til 9pm but even after that they have to go back to the hotel and clear up. All on the basic wage or less.

When I do a lesson based around leisure time and hobbies, they just look at me as if I have gone out and say "what is that? We always work and when we finish we are tired and go to bed"

Some of them are saving up to open businesses and buy houses back home, but recently, more are saying that they would like to stay. Many of them have left children and spouses back home and get very lonely. However, they are prepared to do it because the wages here are so good and even on the basic wage they can save money. Perhaps we should take some lessons from them!

What like, finding a country which pays double (or triple) the wages that the UK does for basic non-skilled labour, has no immigration control so we can get in with no problem, live in a house with 10 of our other country men, save up for 2-3 years and then move pack to the UK and purchase a
house and start a business.

The average monthly wage in Poland is around 468, the UK avergae is 3-4 times that.

I do not have a problem with them for a second, but they are using the worlds economic conditions, something we coming from a country with such high living costs are simply not capable of doing.

Yes they work hard, possibly more so than many British people, but they can see a viable benefit in doing so. If you told me there was a country I could earn 200k a year (with only 20% tax payable) then I would be off like a shot to work like a ****** for 2-3 years.

I'm more than happy for them to be here, but don't make out we are all work shy simply because some Poles have found a way to get rich quick which is simply not open to us.
But aren't some of us doing the same by going to live in Spain, France and Australasia? Some British are off like a shot to these countries because the cost of living is lower, houses are cheaper and they don't need as much heating in the winter because it is milder. Aren't they exploiting that country?

I don't just mean pensioners, but many working families go too for a better life. It has happened before in the past (in the British Empire and the Americas) and it is happening now. Some come here and work, but for others, it is our benefits system that is the problem, many see us as a cash cow.

So we come back to my original point - the indigenous population are being pigeon-holed simply because of their race. That idea stinks.

Like anyone else in the World, there are good, bad and everything in between wherever you go.

... ... I am not english, so maybe they don't include me after all.
It makes you wonder why, if they are so fantastically industrous, the countries they come from are in such a poor economic state.

Yes but at what cost one asks?
