Red meat and alcohol are major cancer causes
Millions of people are at risk of getting cancer unless they slash levels of alcohol and red meat in their diets, medical experts have warned in a landmark study.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml =/news/2007/10/31/wcancer231.xml
People must be leaner, take more exercise, eat more whole foods, virtually cut out alcohol, consume less red meat and eat no bacon or ham at all.
This is the most comprehensive study ever, and not easily dismissed. Will you be following it's recommendations?

My motto that I live by is, "Everything in moderation".
I think if I am sensible with diet, drinking etc, then I would not be changing my lifestyle.
They come up with all those surveys every so often, then they go full circle and turn it all around in twenty years time.
Don't know what to believe anymore. lol

Hi Groms,
Over 5 yrs ago, when I was diagnosed with what I have, I had already chosen to look at diets aswell as other natural bits and pieces. 6 months in St Thomas' eugh!!!
I have never been over weight, but that's not what this is about.
The Swank Diet. It's for m.s but makes sense for all. No fats!!! or as little as possible. It's 35 yrs of study.

The recommendations were to avoid.....
Red meat, fats, dairy. I've never been a huge fan of red meats as they are very hard to digest anyway. I will have my red wine because I like it.
This really is nothing new. It's been in the circuit for years.
If people care about what goes into their body, they will.
Some will not.
and it really doesn't matter what is said.

I think with bacon and other processed meats from pork it's to do with nitrates. If you have a look on your packets of bacon, ham etc you'll see they all have some sort of nitrate or other, apparently that's what gives them their flavours and pink colour. They're carcinogenic (sp) by all accounts, so that bit would make sense. However, bacon is lovely, I refuse to stop eating it, and I'm Jewish too, so shhhh please!
But then breathing in the air in our polluted cities is probably just as bad for your health and a lot of these reports sound like they were made up by vegans to get us all off meat if you ask me.
