I don't get it either.. Why dosen't my mum get an OBE for having cancer 3 times, and it's come back again. Just because she's rich and famous...ohhh, don't get me started!!

you can say that about anyone that gets one though -eg why should yur mum get one (ps did you apply for her to get one???) when there are millions of others?
I think by giving it to someone who is famous then you are "representing" people that identify with them

Jno- she's 'allowed' an OBE becase Australia is part of the commonwealth. And yes, I believe she deserves an OBE just as much as anyone else who's getting one....Des Lynem for one!

She's Australian so that's okay. When Bob Geldolf got his KBE he wasn't allowed to use the "Sir" prefix because he's Irish

If she doesn't deserve an OBE, what warrants the likes of Jazzie B from getting the gong?

And as for Parkie becoming a Knight? Why make him a Knight of the Realm for his work, for which he gets very well paid for? And then there was the Chief Executive of Marks and Spencers,also given a Knighthood for pulling his ailing company out of the mire, WHY?

If anyone should be given knighthoods it should be the Military who lay their very lives on the line, for Monarch and Country.

The whole honors system needs to be looked into..

I have to agree with you.
I feel she has done nothing to inspire me or my hubby with her singing or her fight with cancer.
There again, there are many in the honours list who I personally do not think deserve it either.
Still, they have to dish them out to someone.
