Thatcher thread gets banned.
36 Answers
You see Krovo? Whenever anyone speaks the truth about Thatcher, it gets banned. Lots of things that people complain about in this country today are because of the Thatcher legacy. And whilst you wanted a debate, you haven't said anything about the vast profits that were made by the likes of Goldsmith and Rowland at the expense of peoples' jobs and communities. And what do you know? They were also friends of Dennis Thatcher! It stinks to high heaven. And Thatcher was a great PM? My 4rse!

And their offspring, Darling Mark not only got lost, but is also barred from visiting USA. Wonder why? Thatcher was a Hatcher and good riddance.
No doubt THIS thread will also get pulled.

She brought in 'the right to buy' council houses, good or bad,
I think it was good.
She broke the unions,, remembering that Labour under Callaghan was planning the same thing,
Good or Bad?.
I think it was Good, there's a place for Unions, but Scargill wanted to take the Goverment on.
I think it was good.
The Falklands,
Regardless of how it started, once they had been invaded, were her actions right or wrong?.
I think they were right.
Margaret Thatcher has been the best Post War prime Minister this country has had.
I've only mentioned three of the good things she did, but there are many more.

To be honest, I interpreted it as an attack on privatisation generally. My response to that is that there's a very strong consensus among economists that privatisation was a good thing for British industry.
The Steel industry, for instance, while it employed less people, was vastly improved in efficiency, productivity and profitability by private ownership where it was in debt beforehand. Industries primarily exist to make and sell products. That's why they're there, not to make jobs.
I can't really comment on the specific case of Goldsmith and Rowland (but if you're right then I'd agree that it does seem dodgy), but you can't use that as a basis for attacking privatisation generally.

Perhaps. I'm not saying the Thatcher legacy is overwhelmingly postive, remember.
But people aren't complaining about having their utilities blockaded by unions anymore. Or about unsustainable and uncompetitive industries. Or about ridiculously high inflation. Or about poor economic growth. Or...

She deliberately targetted the working class because she said it wouldn't cost her any votes
Evidence please. I don't think Thatcher ever said that (which is what you're claiming).
What Thatcher was targeting were measures that were inhibiting growth and causing very real problems for peoples' lives. It just so happened that 78% high-end taxation, nationalised industries, and over-powerful unions were in theory at least designed to aid the working class.

Look around you 4GS. Lots of what you see now is down to her and the crap she was being fed by her husband and his mates.
And after more than a decade after she was ousted the Labour party still haven't fixed the Thatcher legacy? Jeezus, how long will it take?
Begs the questions:
1) Does 'New Labour' want to?
or
2) If it ain't broke, don't fix it
As our American friends would say... "Go figure"

I strongly suspect the thread was pulled because there are a number of cretins on this site who said things such as 'I hope she dies', and there was one particular charmer who wanted to p i ss and dance on her grave.
All this just because they didn't like her style of politics.
When these morons finally leave the sixth form they'll realise that these comments are just not on.
Blair was a bad PM and Brown is even worse - I've disagreed with pretty much everything they've done, but that is not a reason to wish them dead: all it simply means is that I have different opinions.

And let's not forget - she hasn't been in power for 18 years: how much longer is she going to be blamed?
Will we be on this site in another 18 years time and still hear the misguided blaming Thatcher for the state of the country?
When are the Thatcher bashers going to grow up and realise that Labour have been in power for the thick end of 12 years and (with the exception of handing over interest rate changes to the Bof E) have royally screwed up pretty much everything they've touched and their mistakes have absolutely naff all to do with Thatcher?

you seem to have a rabid view of MrsT, did she harm you somehow? Why don't you answer some of the points others have made? humour me for a minute here, imagine MrsT did not come along, who/how would the country have pulled itself back from the brink? What state would we now be in? Do you think your hard lefty mates would have seen sense in the end? Forget all the chip on the shoulder cobblers about someone making a few quid, that happens under any regime, especially socialism.
bl00dy hell mr clarionst, what has Maggie done to you? You wern't one of those idiot miners that followed Scargill off a cliff where you? That was your own fault for following a numpty like Scargill. Wasn't even smart enough to strike in the winter, what an absolute J Arthur.
Maggie built up coal reserves, then goaded Arthur to strike in the summer then sernt in the old bill to beat the cr@p out of the idiots that followed him. Sounds like it was old Shredded wheat head's fault to me.
