I have never heard that Britain asked the US for personel in the Falklands, but I did aI checked before I posted that Britain had never asked for troops in the Falklands.

After your reply, I have double checked again. Nothing

Unless you are breaking the official secrets act, this is the best kept secret about the war.

Can you prove your statement, or supply a link to any verification of it?
so there was no shortage of anything in this country everybody has been telling lies.all decent history books are wrong. the germans were about to get a good hiding, the americans were all sat at home eating hot dogs and fries...
i'll being seeing pigs fly next.?????????????????????
>Brown does not want to be too close the Bush as he is discredited and a lame duck President

Well suited then because Brown is a discredited and lame duck Prime Minister.
brown makes maggie look good to me and i never thought i would say that about anyone
He does appear to have lost the plot (or never found the plot).
nice one gromit
Gromit i stand corrected.
The U.S made it very clear that they would not send troops to the Falklands, the reason being that Argentina was seen by the U.S as very much anti communist and I believe U.S.A and Argentina were part of a pan America pact, they did as the poster rightly point out give the British satalite information.
I spoke to some guys from the Scots guards who told me that they 'took out' an American sniper who was working as a mercenary for the Argies
I believe the biggest favor during the ww2 by the Americans was that they kept our women busy. Because a good number (if not majority) of children born during and soon after the war belonged to American soldiers.

That was a huge favor if you think, work force for the future.

The Americans never do anything for us, without payment.

A passage from Gromit's link.

Four years later in April 1986, Britain repaid the U.S. by allowing United States Air Force F-111 aircraft to stage Eldorado Canyon--the punitive bombing mission against Libya--from U.S. bases located on British soil.

Britain has always been a very convenient "Aircraft Carrier" for America.
Oh yes - the other biggest favor by the Americans. Funding and harboring of IRA. Because whenever there was a bomb blast any where in the UK, people celebrated in Chicago.

I wonder if we would have ever attacked USA for harboring and funding the terrorists like the Americans are doing in the world right now.
That should be re-payment.

Nwesdesk I am not saying British girls are easy. There were three factors,

1. They were so innocent and trusting at that time.
2. On the other hand American soldiers were crafty.
3. There were not many men around, so demand and supply situation forced people to go for whatever was there

Does stokemaveric really think that we would have won the war WITHOUT help from the US? If so, then he is the ultimate optimist. It was essential that we got the US involved and the Ministry knew this to such an extent that it has been suggested that Churchil knew of the attack on Pearl Harbour but failed to pass on the information, knowing that the attack would certainly bring the US into the conflict. Eagle Sqadron was a Battle of Britain fighter sqadron of American pilots. This island would have been starved into submission without the help of the Americans on the convoys and the Liberty ships. This shold not detract from the support of the Poles, French, New Zealanders, Aussies, Rhodesians and many other...including the Americans.
