The UK undeniably has a special relationship with the USA. At the moment that suits both countries, but there are signs that the special relationship has cooled slightly. Bush and Blair were megalomanias separated at birth.

Brown does not want to be too close the Bush as he is discredited and a lame duck President. Brown is playing a wait and see until after the US election, and then some serious Brown-nosing to the new President begin.

pusspuss i will ask you 1 question....when during the falklands war the british govt asked the usa for some us troops to assist in the invasion the answer was a resounding no.all the us did to assist us in that conflict was to supply spy sattelite data.we were more than capable of doing that ourselves.you can rest assured that if pearl harbour was nat attacked the usa;s involvement in ww2 would be minimal to say the least.in recent history the usa has not done a lot for the uk.its the other way round if anything.do you really think the us would have waged a war on terror without the help of british troops.i hardly think so do you?

Britain never asked for any troops. It would be humiliating to have to do so. We would never have asked because we would have known the answer would be no.

We could not have re-captured the penguin colony without the US.

The Falklands is a bad example, because far from damaged any relationship with the US, the war and the US's help, actually cemented the special relationship stronger than it had ever been.

pusspuss is correct in that we have finished paying off our debt to America for the weapons used in WW2 a year or two back so we don�t owe them for that anymore.

stokemaveric Intel can be far move valuable than troops on the ground if it is accurate (as satellite photos tend to be providing they are used fast enough). I�m in no way pro American but it�s a scratch my back and I will scratch yours relationship hence why we see our troops in Afghanistan and Iraq.

gromit i beg to differ,we asked for a preliminary us unit to be sent to the falklands to give the sas information about argie units on the islands the answer was no and yes we could and did recapture the falklands without their help.pusspuss the war was almost won when the us came into it,as i have said pearl harbour kickstarted the us involvement in ww2,they were sitting firmly on the fence until then.the question ought to be where would the usa be without the uk?

the falklands , if the argies had waited a bit longer they could have had them back without the loss of a single life.they could have asked brown .he would have scratched his head and said the falkland what ? and signed them back to argentina. he would have wanted payment for all the sheep though.

the falkland war was about the soveriengty of the islands and the liberation of british subjects from the hans of a foreign invader.errrr run this by me again but wasnt dunkirk the evacuation of british forces by BRITISH boats....ie fishing boats and private BRITISH boats.....i dont remember any american vessels helping in dunkirk.
