There is a better picture of the offending T-shirt here

It is possible that the security official had a modicum of taste.

Yea it might not be the best T-shirt ever but I think it's just one really over zealous jobsworth.
It is really really naff, and yet, it somehow suits him.

I bet he works in IT.
Well I stopped calling it common sense ages ago, it ain't that common!
I'm not sure I want the taste police given extra powers; I fear I could fall foul of them any day.
Must get on the next plane with a Tee-shirt saying

"We're all Doooomed"

Underneath I could have one with a crashing plane on it

etc. etc.

Mind you'd I'd probably get let straight on and I'd roast under a laminate of "humorous " T shirts
Does the Disney Store in the Airport sell tshirts with Elma Fudd on?

If so, they should be closed immediately!
>Common sense has.....has finally vanished from the UK

Dont talk such utter rubbish.

We have people in this country who in the recent past have blown up planes, buses, and trains. They have driven cars into airport terminals and more.

For this reason we now have police walking round airports with guns, and these people are ready to shoot anyone who they believe MAY be a terrorist.

If you are a policeman at an airport there are thousands of people coming at you from all directions. You are trying to keep an eye out for anyone who may be carrying a gun or a bomb.

A hundred yards away you see a guy in a white T shirt, with what looks like a gun held to his chest. You shout for him to drop his gun, he does not realise he is the one they are talking to so does nothing, so the police shoot him as he seemes to be armed.

Things like this have happened in the past.

It was right that he was asked to change his T shart, and how anyone can be stupid enough to wear any clothing with a gun on it in an airport must be pretty stupid.
He couldve been a 'robot in disguise' and there couldve been 'more than meets the eye'
he could in fact have been a transformer himself, and turned into an SUV. Those things must be stopped at all costs.
vehelpfulguy - if you really think that the police in a crowded airport couldn't tell the difference between a tshirt with a transformer holding a space age gun (have you seen the picture in the sun link above?) and a real gun, then I would be very afraid of flying.

You say that things like this have happened in the past [innocent person shot in the mistaken belief they were carrying a weapon] - can you tell me when. The only ones I can recall are when a man was 'brandishing' a table leg or a person with a back pack (and if you want to shoot everyone with a backpack in an airport.......)
That is a spectacular piece of nonsense VHG.
I don't think this was a security issue.

There are a number of people who are ridiculously nervous about flying and I suspect this was more regarding them.

The spokesman said

"If a T-shirt had a rude word or a bomb on it, for example, a passenger may be asked to remove it,"
Is there anything wrong with IT folk wearing t-shirts with robots on?
You could just go the whole hog and board a plane dressed as the Grim Reaper.
what if your t-shirt has the holy prophet mohammed on it with a bomb in his turban? Would you be asked to remove that?
MrBounty,

No, there is nothing wrong with IT folk wearing t-shirts with robots on, but I am all in favour of IT blokes being persecuted.

VHG I think it obvious things are being taken a little to far.
Not so long ago the son of a friend of ours walked the streets of his university town, on his way to a fancy dress party dressed in full arab clothing with a toy machine gun and not a single soul, including two police cars that passed him took a blind bit of notice.
I've seen the pictures and he looked the part.
So don't you think that the police at a major airport might be trusted to know the difference.
I think your just making excuses for what was a rather silly state of affairs.
Next thing you'll be telling us is that we should all strip naked just to make sure no one is hiding anything.
