In many ways I don't care one way or the other other than as a tax payer and thinking what this will cost and preferring other ways of spending public money.

However, whilst I deplored her politics, she does stand out amongst politicans inasmuch as being the first (and possibly last) female PM. For this I do think she deserves recognition over and above the ? many males before her and the ? many males that will follow her.

not at all, it's matronising... But like Blair and unlike Churchill (at least in wartime) she was extremely divisive and that in my opinion means she shouldn't get this sort of recognition.

Victoria was well-known for detesting Gladstone, and he got one.

I think another point is that Thatcher's service to the country has been recognised - she's got plenty of titles, plus a statue in the Parliament building. I'm not sure her achievements alone quite warrant a state funeral.
