I don't think you can assume that these kids are immigrants just because they're black. Their families may have come here many years ago. However, in answer to your question 'what have we done to this country?', I would say we've systematically demolished it - and the demolition continues relentlessly.

What would you consider the cut off point is as to whether someone is an immigrant or not Rtaxtron, or do you simply believe that anyone who is not white is an immigrant? How do you know these kids were immigrants?

I would agree we are too worried about offending people or their culture and I think immigration has got out of hand in recent years.

However, I don't define patriotism as hatred and suspicion of all immigrants. I believe patriotism is working together to do the best for our country and being willing to make sacrifices to that end.

I don't think there has been an increase in patriotism as I see it since 7/7. There has been an increase in suspicion of anyone who doesn't look like a white caucasian.

Vic, The case you're quoting is ten years old and is quite unique, thank goodness. It's hardly a reasonable comparison to what we're talking about here, so do try to address the problem in hand. These kids attacked a 50 year old woman for a cigarette, and however much you try, that cannot be excused.

I am not excusing their behaviour - I am simply pointing out that this behaviour is not exclusive to immigrants which is what the vehelpfulguy is implying.

What these kids did is wrong. Full Stop. No excuse.

What is the problem at hand? That 10 year old kids viciously attacked someone.

By bringing up the Bulger case I am pointing out that this is not a new phenomenon.

Certain people see crime and black together and make the association.

They don't see black and success and make that association.

We don't get "black Briton man wins Grand prix" as a headline

We don't get "White paedophile convicted" as a headline.

The Bulger case bears no comparison to this. That was unique. This is not. I'm quite sure that if you had wanted to find something involving white kids to compare this to, which was clearly your aim, you needn't have gone back ten years to dig out an unparalled case that has gone down in history to do it.

I don't know how many people have been knifed specifically for a cigarette, and neither do you, but I do know a lot of people have been knifed. I wouldn't say the attackers are necessarily following in the footsteps of Jamie Bulger's killers though. Or do you disagree?

The majority of knife attacks have been either gang related or mistaken identity. There have been very few unprovoked attacks especially with kids so young.

The reason I brought up the Bulger case is because the original poster gives a link to this news story and makes comments about "What have we done to this country" and a comment about immigration.

The Bulger case illustrates that both of these perceptions are misnomers - ie it is not just immigrants who hurt people and also it is not a new phenomenon.

There have (to my knowledge) been very few cases of 10 year olds attacking adults. You are the one who think that this is not an isolated incident. Maybe you can back up your claim that this is not unique by some other examples?
