I've just heard that JKR is donating a huge amount of money to the Labour Party. I know its her money and she can do what she wants with it, but surely there are more worthy causes that she could donate to?

What do others think?

Ha Ha, sorry don't buy newspapers!
Donating money to a political party is probably one of the most effective ways of using money.

She's particularly concerned for one parent families and obviously feels that Tory policies would see them suffer a lot more.

If a sizable donation like that can keep them out it'd cost a lot less than direct charitable giving afterwards trying to repair the damage
She's after a gong. I think she already has an OBE so perhaps she's after a title. Lady Rowling?

You're probably right terambulan, but would she get one being a personal friend of Gordon & Sarah Brown?
I think the fact that you automatically assume that she wants some sort of reward probably says more about you than her.
For the amount of money she's generated for this country, for the pleasure she's given to millions of children (and adults) and for generating an interest in reading amongst the young I reckon she should be made a Dame.

She deserves it far more than Dame Ellen McArthur.
bollux SP, she's not fit to operate Ellen's bilge pump. So she' wrote a few average kids books, big bl00dy deal! Ok it's encoraged reading that's great but they are still sat on the lardy ar5ses. The good Dame has inspired millions in all walks of life with her drive and enthusiasm.

I totally agree RIGeezer - writing books is not exactly risking your life to follow your dream is it?
Perhaps SP should have used Dame Kelly Holmes as an example - being made a Dame beacuse she could run a bit faster than somebody else was absurd.
Here we go. Let's all hate JK. It's her money -what right have you to say what she should do with it ?
So a lady that sails round the world in a yacht worth millions of pounds and the, rightfully got all the fame and wealth that went with it inspired "millions" not in my neck of the woods they didn't.

J.K Rowling is entitled to do what she wants with her money, or do we feel that the huge donations made by large companies to the Tories are also worthy of criticism?

J.K has bought happiness and delight to millions of children (and adults) worldwide and she has specific reasons for her donation, not following the dumb rote of most political supporters donation.
jake,

if she wants to waste her money encouraging one-parent families that is her choice in a 'just about free society' (democracy went out of the window when we were denied a promised referundum),

most of us working are used to picking up the tab for the types who do not honour their commitments or show bad judgement,

perhaps a better home for her excess dosh would be mary stopes?
No-one under the age of 50 should be made a dame.

However, Dame Kelly has a much better claim on being enobled than Dame Ellen.

All Ellen did was sail a boat about a bit...basically she was lucky that it was windy. You don't have to have any skill to be a yachtsman/woman. You just need to know how to tie a couple of knots and sing some sea shanties.

At least Dame Kelly had to train for her gold.
I've just shot myself in the foot. JK Rowlings is under 50.

Let's make her an exception.

She should be a Dame, so should Victoria Wood and Julie Walters.

Ellen McArthur and Kelly Holmes absolutely do not deserve Damehood.

It would've been far more appropriate to give them CBEs (those are 'higher' than OBEs and MBEs right?)
Ellen MacArthur is an inspirational example to all those people around the UK that want to succeed in her sport - and that's anyone, from any social background or any walk of life. All you need is drive, determination. Oh and your own yacht.

Her achievement must have inspired almost 9 people to follow in her footsteps.
Since the news hit I have told family not to buy any of the JK books or watch any of the films, and we have all agreed to stick to this agreement.

I just hope other Tories will do the same and it will cut into her forthcoming profits, that way Labour will have less money to 'waste' on their own outlandish lifestyles and secret affairs.

It makes me physically sick to know money I have innocently spend on a book will go to the bare faced lying Labour Party for them to **** up the wall.
Fair enough.

In the same way, Labour supporters in the 90s boycotted Andrew Lloyd Webber and Phil Collins for their support of the Tories.

And their kids heaved a massive sigh of relief.
to what..the?

Would that eman you would deny your children the joy of Harry potter for your own political ideologies?

pretty poor show if thats the case!

And does that mean that any company that elps the Labour party with donations you will now not use either?

Thats a pretty long list!
