Why did Ruth Kelly not wait a few days until after Gordon's speech to resign. So now instead of talking about his keynotes the meeja are all obsessed with the leadership. Is she bitter about something? and tis is just a preparatory shot for a major public outpouring? I'm no friend of labour but really even his own side are putting the boot in.
As I understand it, her intention was that by going at such an important time, her resignation would be relegated by the media to a small paragraph on page 7 because of the importance of Brown's speech.

A cabinet member resigns whilst Labour are under going a pretty bad crisis, and she thought it would be on page 7?
She has said that she always intended to step down at the next reshuffle, but it seems the news was leaked to the media, and her speech today had to be re-written last night.
The general concensus is that the oft-used reason 'spending more time with her family' is actually genuine this time - she has four children under eleven. that was cited as one reason why she was made Education Secretaryt, which to me is as logical as saying i can practice as an optician because I wear glasses!
Never took to the woman personally - and her Opus Dei connection makes her weird to my way of thinking.
I note that you haven't taken offence to my post - none was intended .
What I meant to convey , was that , it is well known that the phrase is a euphemisim used 99 % of the occasions , when a politician is sacked or jumps before being sacked .
