Should these two face prosecution and even banned from the BBC?
If these calls had been to an ethnic it would have been classed racist, and their feet would have not touched the floor.
I know before any wit makes the remark that Manuel is an ethnic (Spanish), it was only the part he played.

Wow quite a response, I have not had time to read all your answers yet, because I want to try and set the racial matter right first.
Ethel in her usual cutting way was the first to jump on me, and also thought she should put me right regarding Andrew Sachs nationallity.
Saxy_jag stated that it was equally discriminatory to label someone an "Ethnic". Perhaps he or she should consult a dictionary.
Perhaps the way Ilinked this matter with racist remarks was wrong. What I tried to get across, but obviously failed, was if this had been a remark or telephone call against an ethnic person who classed it offensive, then all hell would have been let loose and the BBC would had sacked these two immediately.
What I was trying to say was that it is just, if not more serious and hurtful to make lewd, sexual and offensive remarks againt one's Grandchild than making a racist remark to someone.
I am not alone in making similar connections, remarks made by comedians such as Bernard Manning have been mentioned as examples on numerous Radio stations, this weekend.
I hope in someway that I have been successful in making it more clear, perhaps some if not all will understand where I am coming from?

I have now read them all, and it seems the majority are against these two individuals.
Out of 80 plus answers the one person that shown themself to be the sickest was flip_flop. I wonder what his or her's thoughts are on racist jokes?

AOG, the analogy was and is deeply flawed - concentration camp guards making jokes about jews who are likely to be meeting their death is in a totally different stratosphere to Ross and Brand making a joke about having sex with somebody.
The two don't even remotely compare.

I was just wondering that if you are so sick to find this "joke" extremely funny, and cannot understand why you are in the minority over this. Then perhaps you may also find many racist jokes also extreamely funny, what is the difference?
If you where to criticise someone as being a racist because they told, in their opinion a similar extremely disgusting racist joke, then you would leave yourself open to being called an hypocrite.

Bloody hell it's a slow news day. Nearly a week after the event, it had received 2 complaints, now it's topped 10,000 because it's silly season and ther's nothing to write about apart from the credit crunch and the American election.
There are a couple of key issues with this one. A couple of idiots swearing at an old man is point one. Point two is a body such as the BBC deeming it broadcastable.
1. Swearing at old men and telling them that you've f*cked their grandaughter is crass and insulting, and being on the radio offers you no curtain to hide behind. You wouldn't do it in public so don't do it on the radio.
2. It should never have been broadcast. The controllers should have edited it out (it was a pre-recorded show), and then made apologies to those involved. Nothing would have come of it had they made the correct choice. If you go to any pre-recorded show such as HIGNFY etc, then there are numerous extremely dubious and tasteless jokes that get edited out. This is the point of the pre-record.
Brand and Ross should apologise and then it should get laid to rest. Being insulting is not the most horrendous crime in the world, and I'm sure that suitably chastised there isn't any need to sack the people invloved. Lord knows why Gordon Brown has entered his two cents into the debate, to further prolong the embarrassment of an elderly man. Well done.

I listened to the whole thing last night to see what all the fuss was about and I have to admit like flip_flop I found it very funny. Yes it was out of order but it was funny, like 2 little school boys phoning up someone with not just 1 but 4 prank calls
Andrew Sach's whilst listening to his answer phone could only ever have thought that this was 2 imature idiots having a laugh with crude language, it could NOT have been taken seriously, especially as he was supposed to be appearing on the show and he should know what those 2 are like
