Does Prof Chapman have a point? Is it sense of humour bypass? As a self confessed Bondophile myself, I think he's taking it all too seriously. Although I enjoy the Bond films, I take them all with a pinch of salt!

What's your favourite Bondism? I like the way that usually the Bad guy in a "Ah Mr Bond, I've been expecting you" sort of moment, then plans an elaborate death for Bond at the same time explaining his plans and low and behold Bold escapes, why didn't they just shoot him straight away? but that's just the suspension of belief that the films give!

I'm with Zacmaster - I think it's perfectly possible to take an essentially cartoon-escapist set-up like a Bond film and analyse all the juice and fun right out of it - but that is possible with absolutely any piece of entertainment in any art form.

The novels were of their time - and their author - a mysoginist writing in austere times when female equality was simply not something people especially considered.

The films have become increasingly far-fetched, but they are are hardly treastises on international relations are they?

I am no expert, but wasn't Carver the media magnate British?

I would never dream of analysing such light-weight fluff as Bond films, they are simply not designed to stand up to any kind of scrutiny at all.

I don't like them. I have no particular reason other than I find them very, very boring and repetative.

Oh, and for the record, if you can show me a comedian who avoids being sexist, heterosexist, xenophobic etc, I'll mention his name's Ben Elton and frankly he's unfunny. I love a lot of un-pc humour - only need to mention Men Behaving Badly.

Ben Elton is rubbish at stand up but he co wrote one of the funniest camedies on TV.
But I don't have a problem with anything in the Bond films other than that they are boring. To me anyway. I don't like Spy films.
