I don't think so, somehow I think there would have been riots.
Were there riots when Jesse Jackson lost (twice) in the 80s?
AOG, you're really scraping the barrel here. You really do come across like you're trying to impose a view of racial conflict on everything.

There are numerous reasons for the celebration of Obama's victory. First, it represents progress. SP covered this - within a lifetime the USA has changed its image: even as short as... say.. 25-30 years ago, the idea that an African-American could successfully run for President would have seemed laughable.
In fact I'd even bet that 22 months ago, it would have still met with derision had someone brought the idea up on AB. The image has changed.
The second reason, as others have said, is novelty.
On the MOBO thing: this has really been flogged to death. The reason there are no MOWOs is that 'blacks' tend to have a more coherent cultural identity: it's much easier to identify music of 'black origin' in terms of culture than it is 'white origin'. For instance, you don't think of Elgar, Mascagani, and Wagner of being 'white' musicians so much as British, Italian and German simply because of a different cultural history/development.
