... the religion of these two sisters is relevant to the story? It is mentioned in both the headline and the first line of the report, but it would appear to have no bearing on the story. Why so?

Probably because Muslims are taking the P all too often. Like the one who tried to sue a supermarket because he was handling alcohol (even though he had been doing it for several years.

What is it NOT relevant to mention when reporting a news item?
beats me. The Guardian once did something similar (yonks ago, they're more cautious now) and I wrote them a rude letter. They didn't reply to it or print it but they dropped the irrelevant racial description in subsequent stories.

I wouldn't waste my time trying this with the Mail though.
Newspapers print details when they pander to the prejudices of their readership and omit them when they do not.

Do you remember the recent fire in the channel tunnel?

I'm willing to bet it was a british lorry that caught fire!

The reason? because no paper I recall remarked on the nationality of it - had it been french of Polish I'm pretty certain that it would have been mentioned.

What about this Shannon Mathews case? - can you just imagine certain people on this forum had she been a moslem.

It's the way racism is propagated these days by selective reporting and it's very affective at appealing to those not bright enough to see through it
If it was a british lorry on fire then no doubt it would`ve had half a dozen foreigners wrapped round the axles
Jake - Lots has been said on here about the Shannon Matthews bunch and other non-Muslims,that has not been very complimentary. So please don't do that "picking on Muslims" nonsense.

So when reporting a news item, is it no longer appropriate to mention, race, religion, age, sex, area the person is from? What next, their name? Perhaps in future we should just say a homosapien?
The Daily Mail do this quite a lot.
That did make me smile Elvis, but it is worth pointing out that the unknown chemical lorry was France-bound.

As regards the creed of the twins, one must surmise this is significantly important to the indignant readership. To think of their audacity in attempting to reveal the sordid behaviour by financiers (important) on six figure (v.important) salaries, it really does beggar belief.

I think the club entrance fee and the price of a laptop dance are also of extreme importance when examining the details of the story, and bearing in mind the.

magical experience with fifty (no less than) dancers from a wide mix of nationalites (not siure if they think thats good or bad) dressed in spectacular outfits from long evening dresses, revealing all the right curves, to fabulous sexy lingerie'.

As well as the VIP lounge with seven (not six or eight) private booths lit with crimson candles and decorated with stone ornaments and fresh flowers which managers claim is the perfect setting in which to entertain guests

The story thoughtfully provides the name and address of the darn place for the dirty old codgers reading the story, so that they can stand outside with placards and protest

Are you sure it isnt just an advertisement feature rather than national news?
Because the mail is sensationalist and racist probably.
There's one fact of the story in which the religion of Samira and Hanan Fariad is relevent, and that's the point that (allegedly), their bosses moved Jewish accounts away from them.

Other than that, it's puzzling as to why the Daily Ma...

Nah...what am I saying. The Daily Mail hates Muslims and knows it's readship hates Muslims and will bend over backwards to throw them in a bad light, no matter what the story is.

I think we all know the Mail likes to do a good ole cornflake spitter so do you Gromit with this loaded question.

It's a bit like your question below really. Why is it relevant that the MEP is a Tory? Because it backs up your anti Tory stance.

Let he who is without sin............
Seemingly for a lack of identity. Perhaps she is a Christian, perhaps not, perhaps there is no certainty either way. Just because her daughter went to a CofE school, it doesnt make her Christian. She could be an atheist, or just non-affiliated

Saying they are Jew, or Muslim or even Catholic, would seem to add clarity to identity something the closeted readers relate to and can benchmark with their inherent ideals and stereotypes - didnt they make something out of the McCanns being Catholic?
DrFilth

Wouldn't be a story about Muslims if the Daily Mail hadn't pointed it out.

It's just really weird.

Okay...not all Daily Mail readers are raving right wing loonies, foaming at the mouth.

By the way, nice use of the 'chip on your shoulder' line.

I think you're right...I've grown to vehemently hate the Daily Mail recently even though I used to buy the MOS years ago.

A better Sunday read - The Observer or Independent On Sunday.

Real quality.
Easy Gromit, because they are in a majority. I'm sure the Kabul Daily would read "Christian" aid workers executed.
Doubt it Rock, it would say 'Western'.
sp1814 i get the mail on sunday for the crossword

It is relevant to state Den Dover is a Tory because the Tories have been campaigning for years about fraud in the EU, and then their leader in Brussels has defrauded us out of half a million quid. It would be an major omission to the story not to mention his party.
