Is BNP membership a sackable offence?

I was looking through the BNP membership list after it was leaked online and, as well as discovering that the family who live two doors down from me are all members (you really wouldn't have guessed to look at them), I noticed a few teachers, prison officers and servicemen were on the list.

I seem to remember reading that membership of a far right organisation is a sackable offence for police officers? Is that right? And does it apply to other public sector careers like teaching?

As I stated in my first post - the BNP are a legal political party...but like the Nation Of Islam, they are also a supramacist (white) party.

You can be both, and the BNP are.

So it looks like we're in agreement, that BNP party members shouldn't be placed in positions where their political beliefs run counter to their job role.

Doc would you deny the holocaust happened?

In public or private ?

DO you believe it happened or not?
jake-the-peg.........do your own reserch, via Google!

sp - I don't beleive that membership of any legal political party should stop someone from holding a post in public life. Where will it all end?

Leg end, Exactly where did I say the BNP are nice guys?

Don't make even more of a fool of yourself. Keep your unintelligble semi-literate ramblings to asking people in chatterbank their favourite sweets.
Sgt rock unlike you i can spell hypocrisy.
Seems you're more of a bumbling idiot than i first thought.

Doc the bnp believe the holocaust never happened. If you're gonna sing the praises of an organisation at least see what they think or stand for eh ?

That's like saying Dr shipman was a bloody good Dr.
Well i know a good few families that would disagree there.

Sgt rock to so vociferously defend them , it would be stupid unless you actually agreed with their extreme views?
Unless of course you're just trying to stir up trouble
Now who would be so low as to stir up trouble on a legend thread?

It is simple, there is a right answer and there is a wrong answer.

The right answer is that you would henceforth shun the person. The wrong answer is that you would respect them. There is no middle path.
Sorry quinlad, posted on the wrong thread.

Of course membership is not a sackable offence, but in some jobs it would cause the employer to look askance. Membership of the BNP is relatively small, but tacit applause of certain of their views is extremely widespread. It's what's in the mind that counts, not a name on a list.
Better tell me which is the correct spelling then leg end

The worst type of fool is the one who doesn't realise what a fool they are.

Now go back to chatterbank, ask people what socks they are wearing and leave this to intelligent people to discuss.
Dammit...I wanted to look up the BNP's manifesto, but our firewall at work won't let me. When I click on their link, I got:

Your request was denied because of its content categorization: "Hate/Discrimination;Politics/Opinion"

Which kinda summarises the two ways in which the party is viewed.

So - do the BNP really deny the Holocaust?

Why's that?
sp - Not sure what holocaust denial is all about. Hardly like there is lack of evidence is there?

I actually agree that membership of a political party shouldn't necessarily bar you from gainful employment. However, if your 'secret' is revealed, there are certain positions which would become untenable.

For instance, what would happen to the court system if it were revealed that the judge preciding in (say) a case where a black man had raped a white woman was a member of the BNP?

Sure, if his/her political allegiances are unknown, it's not an issue - but the minute it hits the public domain, it becomes a problem.

The reason why? Because despite your belief that 'the majority' of the public support them...people feel uneasy about extremists of any hue.

Most of us are moderates. If we weren't, the BNP and the Socialist Workers Party would be the biggest movements in the country.

...and they're not.

It's at this point that someone wheels out the line about the BNP only saying what the majority of people believe but dare not say.

And probably something about how people only claim to disagree with the BNP because it makes them look good.

Please type that line below:
Perhaps the judges and policemen have become BNP supporters because of what they have seen in the course of their work?

Many judges are hunters, what do you think they do when a hunt saboteur stands before them? The whole legal biase cannot be changed and is prevailent in more ways than just race ways. The judge is supposed to leave prejudice at the door.

I do not see why political affiliation could lose anyone their job. I thought we were a free country, but people are too afraid of saying what they really feel.
Here Here Paul!!!
Don't spread it around but I Know there are Policemen who eat the Flesh of their God every Sunday. Incredible Wot ?
Why are ballots secret even in an advanced democracy?

It's rather odd don't you think, why is it that people don't want other people to know what they think or how they vote? I think it is a complete anachronism, voting should be by a public show of hands, and photographs taken, so any people not voting the correct way can be dealt with accordingly.
Just been looking at the BNP members list. I was not surprised that there were members in the small town (Pop. 31,253) where I live, but I was surprised that of the 10 people who are members (including a Trade Union Official), 5 live on the same road as me.

I do hope they are not going to send property values down.
For instance, what would happen to the court system if it were revealed that the judge preciding in (say) a case where a black man had raped a white woman was a member of the BNP?

Or perhaps if it was left to a Black senior police officer (who also happened to be a member of the National Black Police Association Officers) to discipline a White officer accused of an alleged offence against a Black officer?
