where does the word news come form?

I think there is a link with the Greek word neos meaning new.

The word "new" may be derived from the Greek "neos", as Vittoria says; but "news" is simply the plural of "new". The word has been in use for hundreds of years, meaning the latest tidings - for example, it occurs numerous times in Shakespeare's plays. Though today we regard it as a singular noun, originally it was a plural, and someone might say "What are the news?"
