Should Adrian Chiles be sacked from bringing the BBC into disrepute?
53 Answers
Carol Thatcher made a comment yesterday off camera though while still at work. If a person took offence at that, then fair enough, there is a grievance procedure to follow.
However someone (and I presume this to be Chiles though concede it may be someone else) has made this story public.
There is absolutely no reason for this - and it again brings the BBC into the forefront in a bad way.
Should the person responsible for making this public be disciplined?

If so, I have to ask people...does he really look like a g0******:

I could understand it if Thatcher had said he looks like Mohammed Ali, but a g0******??? Was she high?

You appear to be making an assumption of where the leak came from. However, in a statement, the BBC has said
"There were a number of complaints from people in the room about this particular remark, it did cause offence. A number of people were quite taken aback by the language."
Whoever said, passing on the words of a private conversation, though not nice is not against any rules. It was the golliwog comment that brought the BBC into disrepute, not the messenger.

Do you think she meant Gael Monfils

1Armedbandit - Ross was suspended for 6 months. Thatcher's been banned from one programme, not the BBC. She could be back on TV tomorrow. I'd say she got off lighter.
The leak could be from anywhere. I bet hundreds of people at the Beeb knew within hours. If someone said something racist in our office in front of people, everyone would know pretty quickly. In fact, when a member of our senior management team made a series of Bernard Manning style black and asian jokes in earshot of several members of the company, he was disciplined. Everybody knew.

Bit different. Ms Thatcher is an occasional guest on The One Show. She's not a permanent present.
Jonathan Ross was suspended without pay. This means he was effectively 'fined' 1.5million. I think his punishment was substantially greater than Carol's.
Which I think is correct, because his actions were very incredibly stupid.
Weird how both Thatcher, Ross and Brand - all supposedly professional broadcasters can be so heroically dim!

I do admit to being a racist but her comment was not one that I would make because it does cause offence. She may not have meant it to cause offence but even I find it offensive and she should be asked not to speak in that way, but she should not be fired. Definitely get rid of Jo Brand thoughl, I hate that evil cow.
