Should Adrian Chiles be sacked from bringing the BBC into disrepute?
53 Answers
Carol Thatcher made a comment yesterday off camera though while still at work. If a person took offence at that, then fair enough, there is a grievance procedure to follow.
However someone (and I presume this to be Chiles though concede it may be someone else) has made this story public.
There is absolutely no reason for this - and it again brings the BBC into the forefront in a bad way.
Should the person responsible for making this public be disciplined?

Ahem.. Sorry... No, I don't think anyone should be sacked. It's a business at the end of the day and as Nick says, if someone says something at work that's controversial the gossip mills go at 100mph and everyone knows about it. THe person will be disicplined and shame faced. I don't think Carol is a permenant employee but she's certainly been shame faced and I would imagine will keep comments like this to people she knows, trusts and is assured have the same mind set as her. Also, if the BBC had tried to gloss over it, they'd have been criticised for that too so it's a case of damned if you do, damned if you don't I think.

Looking at the photo of Gael Monfils, she should have been sacked for causing offence to Mr Golly.

I have carefully re-read the BNP manifesto of 2005 and am unable to find evidence of Right-wing tendencies.
Could ths have been because Nornan Tebbit belonged to the Tory Party, who are a right wing party?
Therefore any tendencies in the 2005 BNP manifesto whould be Far Right Wing tendencies and not Right Wing tendencies.
But don't let a point of fact get in the way of you trying to get your point across.

Is it Gael Monfils???
If it is, then far be it for me to rain on the parade of those who feel Carol Thatcher's comments are tantamount to racism, but here's the thing - he does look like the ********, in so far as he is black and his hair, in the picture in AOG's link, is a fair representation of golly's hair.
If he did not have hair like this then he wouldn't look like golly.
Nicholas Soames is a fair representation of that other character from bygone years - Billy Bunter.
Nadia from Big Brother looks like Desperate Dan.
Ian Hislop has always reminded me of Charlie Brown.
I could go on, but you get the point.
Drawing a paralell between a black man that bears a passing resemblance to Golly is not racism.
I find Gail from Coronation Street bears more than a passing resemblance to a monkey. I also find the black chap on dancing on ice (not Hanley) bears more than a passing resemblance to a monkey.
If the latter is deemed racist by those who get all swivel eyed and upset on behalf of people who probably couldn't give a tinker's cuss, then what is the former?

you barmy geriatric.
This is not only deeply offensive, but also ageist.
It is regrettable, but I think the time has now come for us to part company Gromit, so I will no longer be responding to your posts.
What has got into you? You were never like this once, but it now seems when if you find yourself in a corner, you have to resort to immature offensive remarks.

This thread is about immature offensive remarks and you appear to be condoning them. Call a spade a spade and all that. When you are on the receiving end of offensive remarks you not surprisingly see it different.
I have no idea if you are indeed old or barmy. The offensive remark is not my view of you, but it was used to see if you would take such a tolerant view of impolite and inappropriate language if it was yourself that was being abused.
