Daily Mail readers...absolutely correct on this one

Should the BBC stick by their one-armed CBeebies presenter, Cerrie Burnell or should she be moved to protect children who are reportedly 'scared' by her appearance:

For once, I am in agreement with the majority of posts on the Daily Mail website.

Once again a first for the Daily Mail SP I think will will have to wait much, much longer for those Monkeys to come up trumps.

To address your post: I think the parents would be better employed explaining to their children, why Cerrie Burnell is different to what they perceive as normal, than ringing the BBC.

What is the matter with some parents these days, don't they know how to teach their children? All children during the stage of growing up will come across many things that they just can't get their heads around.

It is up to the parents to talk to them, and teach them. Not only about why some things are different, but all the other things that a child will need to know in these early years.

Absolutely right. Parents should explain to their children that life is not perfect and some people are different to others.

That's awful. Parents need to teach their children about the real world. What would they do if they seen someone in a wheelchair in the street....cross the road and cover the kids eyes...

I was wondering when somebody would raise this. I was a bit shocked when i saw her and my three year old son said 'look that lady has no arm' and that was it. Now when he sees her on cbeebies he says 'theres that lady with no arm'. No upset, shock etc. its quite simple really.
Maybe some of the parents are making a big deal of it.
Disability aside, i think shes ok but a bit wooden. And the guy she presents with is crap!! Sorry, preferred Chris and Poi.
However I agree that maybe she was given the job cos of her disability.

My God I am actually disgusted and angered after reading that! What is the matter with people? How are our children ever going to learn to accept people for who they are and not by what they look like if parents react like this!!

So we cant have Stephen Hawkins on TV as he is in a wheelchair, or the man who had his face burnt in the Falklands war.

And what about the poor guy in the Daily Mail today who had both legs and one arm blown off in the Afghan war, we should make sure he never appears on TV.

In the end we will finish up with the only people on TV being handsome or beautiful people with no obvious defects.

There are plenty of people on TV who scare me such as Russell Brand, some of the rap singers, some of the actors I see on the soaps, and some of the awful character on Big Brother, shall we ban them as well?

apparentlly there has been some criticism that the BBC have employed her to be politically correct. Which sounds just as appalling.

These parents appear to be somewhat narrow-minded. They should talk to their children and explain to them that there are people of all walks of life out there and not everybody is perfect, rather than complain about a young woman born without a forearm.

My God- complaints because she's missing half an arm? That's disgusting!

I've noticed that one of the comments said that the parent thought their precious offspring might get scared- not that they actually were.

Mini Boo watches CBeebies and we've both seen this presenter, who's appropriately cheery and really quite sweet. Mini Boo hasn't noticed her arm and I have to say I didn't pay much attention to it either.

I hope the people who've made such horrible comments are now ashamed of themselves.

I wonder if these same parents who are hounding her off the channel will also be calling for Justin Fletcher to be stripped of his OBE and to be removed from cbeebies too. After all, his own show contains sign language and also includes many disabled children.

You cannot possibly be on tv or in films unless you are one of the beautful people. It was hardly supprising that this has happened. It doesn't pay to be anything but "normal" if you want to be on telly.
May be mummy and daddy ought to spend some time helping their children understand that there is no such thing as normal and the world would be a boring place if there was.

As most of you know, my daughter is Autistic, not dangerous in any way, shape or form, but as a child, some parents wouldn't let their children near her, in case they caught it.
The children themselves were just curious, not frightened.

Mini O watches everything CBeebies and apart from being obsessed (with Charlie & Lola lately) she is in awe of all the presenters and she really enjoys �Something Special� a programme primarily about, and for, children with disabilities. Do these parents protect their cotton wool sprogs from that as well?

I think people who really believe she was appointed because of her disability are masking their own innate distaste, whilst trying to be seen as non-discriminatory. Such shame.
