On the 'Who's Calling Christian' feature - where celebrities ring up with a chance to win �20,000 for charity - Jason was asked to leave a question for the next guest.

Sir David, 69, replied: "What do you call a Pakistani cloakroom attendant?" Following a brief pause, he then delivered the punch line: 'Me hat, me coat.'

What is wrong with this joke? when are the over-sensitive Muslims going to chill?

Because it's supposed to sound like "Mahatma Coat". I would imagine that the radio show's do-good bosses made him apologise and this had nothing to do with Muslims.

Mahatma is used in the Hindu faith rather than Muslim, so this weak joke should have referred to an Indian cloakroom attendant.

We may have more respect for muslims and Pakistanis if they didn't make a fuss every time someone tells a daft joke. If his joke had been about an Englishman, Welshman, Scotsman or Irishman his joke would have been instantly forgotten and no fuss made.

However, when a joke is told about a Pakistani it is instantly seen as racist and insulting even though it is hard to see how this particular joke is remotely racist.

Advice to muslims and Pakistanis. Get a sense of humour and life may be just that bit easier.

He's a very old man and we should give the elderly leeway because they live in a different world to us.

Furthermore - the joke doesn't actually make any sense.

Mahatma Coat doesn't work because 'Coat' doesn't sound like a Muslim surname.

it's an old joke, dating from long before Pakistan existed (but dating from when Gandhi existed, of course). But Jason evidently thinks that if you just say the word 'Pakistani' everyone will roll about laughing. Personally, I just yawn because he's completely missed the point of what would otherwise be a perfectly good pun. Nothing so irritating as hearing someone mangle a joke.

Why should he apologise for cracking a joke (albeit an old one) about a name, he wasn`t being offensive to Pakistanis

It`s no more offensive than the old one about "What do you call an Indian who`s lost his keys?..Gunga Din"

Is it only offensive to mock an accent if it`s aimed at Indian or Pakistanis?
