G20 - Another protester assaulted by Police
A police sergeant seen in video footage hitting a woman during the G20 protest in London has been suspended, Scotland Yard has said.
He is shown hitting the woman in the face with his hand and her leg with his baton after allegedly being sworn at.
The sergeant works for the Territorial Support Group.
"The officer has been identified and suspended pending further investigation. The officer works as a sergeant in the territorial support group," he added.
Earlier, police said the actions of the officer featured in the footage raised "immediate concerns".
David Howarth, the Liberal Democrat's justice spokesman, has called for a "full-scale inquiry".
"The fact that this video shows another example of an officer with his number obscured assaulting a member of the public indicates that there is a systematic problem here, not just a series of individual acts of misconduct," he said.
It is easy to see how a large crowd would be angered by seeing the police attack people. Surely it is only luck that this did not provoke a full scale riot.
Are acts of violence by the Police now permissible against people exercising their right to protest?

Clips of video are not conclusive evidence. They can be cut or selectivley shot.
There waas a large element of scum intent on disruption and violence. The old bill did remarkably well, I know I saw it wuith my own eyes. Like I said, a couple of small incidents over the length of time and the numbers involved are excellent. Well done old bill.
So, anyone else on here witness any of the protests first hand ? All just armchair critics (or Islington coffe shops) by any chance?

So I disagree and you call me names, clearly your argument is so weak it will not stand debate so you do the standard lefty trick of reverting to vitriol.
It so hurt you that I wouldn't bend to your lefty tw4tery.
You see people to see real nastiness you have to disagree with a lefty.
Tell you what doc spock, good job you weren't the copper concerned you'd have thrashed her to within an inch for disagreeing with you. ha ha.
Calm lovely liberal, turns into Vlad the impaler when losing an argument.
And perlease don't think you have changed the argument by digging up some bit of footage of plod going over the top, that's not the argument here. Still always enjoy turning an oh so liberal calm yoghurt knitter into a rabid attack dog !

if you or I attacked someone who was slow to get out of our way, or who gave us some verbal, we would face criminal prosecution.for assault.
Well of course we would, we are civilians and they are the Police. Soldiers sometimes have to shoot people, but we would face criminal prosecution if we were to do the same.
At times they have to get tough when dealing with some of the scum they have to deal with.
The type of people that perhaps we would never meet on a one to one basis.

When people are NOT protesting in a PEACEFUL manner, but instead are THREATENING and PROVOCATIVE, they have to expect a positive Police response.
The woman came into the above category and was dealt with accordingly.
Had there not been an overwhelmingly outnumbered Police presence there, full scale rioting would have been the order of the day.
Put the blame where it REALLY belongs, at the door of those disparate, lawless rabble rousers hell bent on mayhem and anarchy, NOT at our law enforcers who have an impossible and thankless job to do.

Spot on parrafin and it doesn't help having a bunch of hand wringing yoghurt knitters having a go all the time when a little force is needed. Still it's gone quiet in that area lately must be time for them to nip down to starbucks and slag off the army or the queen or George Osborne's Missus, still you disagrre with a lefty and woe betide you!

I deal with vile violent and disgusting druggies every day, if I reacted to the taunts and threats in an unprofessional manner I'd lose my job.
If I can stay calm when faced on my own by 6 druggies I see no reason why an empowered police officer with a police riot squad, the full weight of the law and state legislature behind him can't.
Arrest her if she's breaking the law, if she resists use force, if others step in use it on them too.
Smacking people indiscriminately is far more likely to inflame a situation than calm it down.
I wonder how our police would've dealt with the riots in Tibet lasts year?

At times they have to get tough when dealing with some of the scum they have to deal with.
Both victims do not appear to have merited the amount of excessive force they both dealt by the police.
Well, Mr Tomlinson wasn't even a protester, he was a stumbling alcoholic on his way home from work, he had his back to the officer when he was attacked. From the pictures, this little woman doesn't look like she should frighten a trained policeman.
Soldiers are trained to attack in a war situation. The police are supposed to follow the law like the rest of us.

The police are first of all human beings with human feelings and human failings and secondly policeman.
If a "low life" intellectually challenged, was giving me a load of verbal abuse (lip) when I had more important matters to deal with i.e catching villains, the "whacking" she got from the policeman would be mild compared to the "wacking " that I woujld give her.
End of story.
