Asian news reporters
5 Answers
Why are so many news reporters & presenters on British TV now of Indian or Pakistani origin? I'd estimate they make up at least 60% of them. If they're hired partly to represent our diverse nation, surely that's well over the average.
Word is the BBC are about to appoint a Muslim as Head of its Religion & Ethics department. The deputy is already a Sikh. Is it fair to suggest Asians are rapidly taking over British broadcasting and, if so, why?

I've heard a rumour that they are hired simply good at their jobs.
Wonder why that is?
Perhaps it's because more Asians go into journalism courses at Uni?
It'd be quite difficult to check out the figures though, because you'd have to marry up the numbers of Asians taking journalism courses to those entering tv journalism.
Does it bother you that Asians are over-represented in current affairs or underrepresented in light entertainment, drama, sport, natural history, children's tv and arts programmes?
