wel as we are using cleesian terminolgy Gromit...

.. otherwise good?
We helped depose a democratically elected moderate socialist, Mossadegh, and replace him with the Shah.
His reign was propped up by state terror.
The revolution that eventually led to his overthrow was hijacked by the Mullahs. They still pull the strings.
So the ordinary decent people of Iran have suffered almost 50 years of tyranny. First under the Shah, then under a theocracy.
We also armed Saddam in his war with Iran.
None of this is ancient history. The people of Iran have good reason to fear meddling from both the UK and the USA.

But apart from that, why do they not like us?

Us? How dare you class yourself as one of us (British), when you are constantly slagging us off and siding with 'Johnny Foreigner' all the time, you make George Galloway into almost a patriot.

Better for you, George, and others like you, to pack your bags for distant lands, at least from there you could not be classed as Traitors in your own land.
I class myself as British AOG because that is what is says on my passport.

On the whole, I think the British have a lot to be proud of and have said so many times on here.

However, when my Government (past and present) does something I disagree with, I will say so as is my right. That does not make me un-British, quite the opposite, I want my country to do the right thing.

People like you who supported installing the Shah and his death squads are the people who let down this great country of ours. It is people like you who are responsible for creating the conditions where the fundamental clerics took countrol. And look where that has got us.

For your information I did not support installing the Shah, in fact I don't think we were ever given a choice.

Yes I also criticise what our Governments do at times, the only difference being you are constantly doing so, not only criticising but also using disparage terms in the process, as you do to anyone else that don't support your far left views.
I'm with Gromit on this, you asked the question why don't the Iranians like us, there's your answer.
The key thing for freedom of speech is the ability to criticise your own government.
We do have some history with regard to Iran, and they subsequently with us.
I heard the speech (some of it) on Channel 4 news, IMHO threats of death to anyone do not belong in places of worship or parliament, I don't recall Churchill wishing death upon the Germans (not even in his "Growing Confidence" speech) but I could be wrong.
Am I the only one to be amused by the sight of Western powers decrying Iran as a danger to world peace when they have'nt invaded anybody whilst also voicing disgust at the violent suppression of demonstrations and the possibility of voting irregularities?
G20, G8 demos, George Bush's first term anybody?
The Iranian people don't see us or the Americans as the enemy. It's only the leaders who promote this belief to serve as a distraction from their failing economic policies.
