Yep, I agree wholeheartedly bobthe duck.  You've certainly got my vote there.  I couldn't give a toss what these parasites do in their private life, and as you say there is no way they would be useless in Iraq.

I do agree with you in some ways Bobtheduck.  However, apparently they cost 1p  per person each year in taxes, so I don't think the tax thing is a viable argument.  I don't mind having a Royal Family as I quite like all the pageantry and tradition and I believe they bring a lot of income into the country from tourists.  However, I am fed up with all the media coverage of every bit of their lives.  I am also against all the 'hangers on' in their extended family.

After what Prince Charles has said about education this week, I think he ought to keep his sons out of the limelight for a while.  They sort of disprove his arguments!

Sorry, bobtheduck - typo there - I meant of course there is no way they'd be USEFUl in Iraq.  And we keep hearing about them in the media, their private lives, their opinions - who cares?

Youre on my favourite rant now, bobtheduck !, i have no time for ANY of the royal family, they are priveledged by acident of birth, believe themselves above everyone else, what about all the bloodsports they pursue?.How would any off them cope doing an honest days work, especially 12 hours off shiftwork in a manufacturing facility that i have to put up with, for Gods sake, Charles even has a butler to help him get dressed. They get an obscene amount of money from the public purse, for visiting a few events, opening new buildings etc. William , if he ever suceeds in an army career would never serve i Iraq, but if he did would not be exposed to danger in Falujah like the 'common' soldiers in the Black watch, would have his own personal bodyguard around him at all times. Charles, opening his plummy mouth this week shows that the class divide still exists and he for one still wants us mere mortals kept in their place and not to expexct to aspire to much more than manual work. How many bloody holidays a year do this family have, i have to save all year for a fortnight somewhere warm in Europe, they go gallivanting off sometimes for just a couple of days to the other side of the world at us (the taxpayers) expense. Please, dont anybody on the Answerbank give me the tired old line usually trotted out by the royal lovers that they are good for tourism, they in my humble opinion are a waste of time money and space.

1p a year on taxes is far too much to pay for these parasites - I begrudge it!!
I am no royal lover druiaghtagh, but the fact is all the pageantry does bring in the tourists.

Yes Mike1222, I suppose that 1p each per year could be used for something more worthwhile, come to think of it - like saving our NHS.

ive always thought the tourist argument was a red herring really because surely the tourists would still come to see the castles and the palaces if the monarchy was abolished, its not as if any of the royals would lower themselves to actually meet any tourists.
I suppose they would mindbullets, but all the ceremonies such as Trooping the Colour, Royal Ascot, etc. must be fascinating for tourists from countries with no current royal family.  Undecided on this one!
Speaking as a USAn, I think that tourists would still flock to the UK to see the old castles, Westminster Abbey, Big Ben, the Scottish Highlands, etc etc.  The actual Royal Family itself does not get involved in anything that would promote tourism - how many fellers in flowered shirts and Bermuda shorts with cameras strung around their necks get invited to Royal Ascot or Trooping the Colour?
I don't buy the tourism argument either. They would still come, as England and Britain have much to offer. I think that the tourists watch the Trooping The Colour in astonishment that this type of thing still goes on.

does anyone care what he does

Yes - I care very much

...and these staged documentries that he and Harry do

They are not "staged"

...are just embarrassing,

No, they are very interesting and informative

what makes him think he would be good enough to join the army anyway?

It might be something to do with the fact that he is physically very fit, capable and self-disciplined

could you see him serving in Iraq?

Yes, if his unit were sent to serve there.  Both William and Harry are adamant that they want to be treated fairly in the army and not to get any special treatment.  Their deployment would depend on decisions based on military considerations.

I'm tired paying taxes for these bunch of useless people

You have never paid a single penny of tax to pay for any of the Royals.  The entire cost of the Monarchy, including the Civil List and the palaces and train, are paid for many times over by the money which is paid by from the Crown Estates to the Exchequer.  Specifically, Prince Charles (and by extension William and Harry as well) gets income from the Duchy of Cornwall and not from the Civil List.  William and Harry have also funds which they inherited from their mother - which also was not paid by taxpayers.

anyone agreeing?

No

Normally I am an atheist, but when it comes to the Monarchy I say God Save The Queen and Thank God for Prince William and Prince Harry and Thank God that we live in a Kingdom and not a Republic.

England, Harry and St George, eh bernardo?  Yeah but no but tourists are more interested in historical buildings than royal family.  Obviously there will be some tourists who are thrilled by the fact that Buckingham Palace is still actually used by a monarchy still in existence, but tourists would still come to the UR (United Rebublic of Great Britain).  They flock to France and Italy (both republics) to see the historical attractions, and there are years when these countries attract more tourists than the UK (check that fact out if you don't believe me).
Well said Bernardo... I for one am very proud to be British, although more proud of my country's history than the current state of it..asylum seekers, yob culture etc. The Royal Family are essential for tourism and with them in place it brings in millions more in tourist revenue than they actually cost the taxpayer. GOD SAVE THE QUEEN
Roll on the republic!!!

more proud of my country's history than the current state of it..asylum seekers, yob culture etc.

Its not that bad though is it!?!? For every problem now there was a problem in our history eg slavery, workhouses etc. This country is made up of immigrants over time anyway. I don't see a problem with asylum seekers as such, as long as the wrong ones get sent back. Though actually I think if i lived in the countries a lot of them originate from and saw how we lived, and assuming i had the balls to do it, i'd try and get into France, Germany or the UK.

when it comes to the Monarchy I say God Save The Queen and Thank God for Prince William and Prince Harry and Thank God that we live in a Kingdom and not a Republic.

Why though?

I never said anything about attracting tourists.
PS also I never said anything about "England, Harry and Saint George" either.  I am a United Kingdom patriot, not an England patriot.
