The baby P case three have now been officially named. Is it right to put their safety and possibly lives at risk?

Tell you what shall we change the law so that sentences are handed out not based on what crime was comitted but how angry it made everyone feel?

Tell you what we could not send them to prison but just let them out with sufficient publicity in Trafalgar square and let the crowds tear them apart.

Or even better sell tickets at Wemley stadium and let them be ripped apart by Lions

Then we could truely hold our heads up high in the family of nations and let everybody wonder at how far our justice system has progressed in the last 2,000 years!

Whoops, Lazygun, I should have said 'they have only just been sentenced'. Thanks for correcting me ..........
I was so livid from reading about new identities for these scum, I got carried away.

jake-the-peg - so you think people should not be upset and outraged as this despicable crime against this child ?

Den - if I may speak for jake, although he is more than capable of defending himself -

being 'upset' is not the issue, or indeed the Question. The point jake makes - in tandem with mine - is that righteous vigilaneism is a seriously dangerous road for a civilised society to take. That is why we have a legal system with checks and balances, which, flawed as it is, does not depend on the perceived horor of a crime by the general public to determine the appropriate punishment.

I dread the day when I return home from a hard day beheading child molestors, full of bonhomie for a job well done, and I inadvertently trip a roadside bomb by travelling at two miles over the speed limit. I crawl home, glad to be alive, only to have my head stamped to a pulp by my neighbour because my dog has fouled his lawn.

Justice is in the handsof the law, not the angriest person around and i for one am very happy for that to continue.
The other problem of anger-fuelled justice is that it bases punishment on the amount of media attention a case receives rather than the gravity of the crime. And when a crime becomes high-profile, people try to outdo each other as to how morally affronted they are.

A female perjurer like Maxine Carr is the subject of more scorn and bloodlust than most male murderers. The general public aren't to be trusted.

ThePlayer - er, no we don't!
Wasn't this debated ad-nausium at the time?
Bloody hell - I am really being taken to task for having an opinion !!

I don't think I mentioned in my post that I wanted anyone thrown to lions in an arena or hung drawn and quartered -
I agree a prison sentence should fit the crime - unfortunately this is never the case - these scum will be walking the streets, no doubt let out for 'good behaviour'.

I also DO NOT agree with vigilantes roaming the streets, taking the law into their own hands.

Please do not read something into my post which was not there......................................

I think we should let them all share a cell with Robert Maudsley (he just loves child abusers) and lets see how long they last. Although seeing as how he has a penchant for eating fellow prisoners brains I doubt there would be enough to cover a ritz cracker with the three of them put together. Seriously though, with any luck they will all be "dealt with" while they are in prison and hopefully will not live long enough to ever be released.
