Who is likely to pay the ransom when it is asked for?

They are said to have little wealth.
The government's policy is NOT to pay ransom money.

Should they fend for themselves knowing they were entering dangerous waters?
Would the sacrifice of these two elderly couple prevent further hostage taking?

Their sacrifice will mean may lives could be saved in future. Are they just stupid for sailing into an area ruled by piracy? If they are that dim they deserve no sympathy.

Any idiot who is going to go sailing in pirate infested waters is a fool and deserves to be removed from the planet. It reminds me of the bloke who went bike riding round Iraq and got kidnapped. What idiots.

Definitely don't pay.
