Has Mrs Janes lost all credibility now?
Talk about undignified, I reckon the lad would have been cringing! Am I the only one who thinks she's made amountain out of a mole hill? I'm no fan of Brown but I reckon this woman is now comming across as an attention seeking fool. There where errors, yes but is she really saying Brown was doing it deliberately? There have been over 200 deaths and I believe the PM has written to all of them, I have not heard of a comma out of place up to now, could it be that the recipients of those letters accept them for what they are? This woman is trying to turn herself into a celebrity of the back of her son's death. It comes to something when a Tory leaps to the defence of a Labour PM!

Have just listened to this phone call. This is a mother grieving over her 20 year old son, listening to her saying how the coroner listed her son's injuries, broke my heart. Getting her son's name wrong was a bad mistake but as regards other spelling mistakes throughout the letter, well that does seem petty to focus on this.
If the Sun Newspaper are trying to discredit Gordon Brown, then shame on them for using this mother's grief to achieve it.

I agree DEN - the sun is manipulating this womans grief and encouraging her all the way. They will come out worse in this hopefully - I cant see a major problem with the name though as James is a more common name and an easy mistake made - and I would think this has happened to this lady quite a few times before.
Well put squad.
I am not a Brown suporter either, as many on here know, but credit where crit is due he has tried to do what he thought best. Clearly this has not been enough for some.
And ok blame the media, but think; they would not have known if she had not shown them the letter in the first place.
It is simply an error, why has this country got to the state where we always have to blame something for anything.
So sad for once great Brittania.

actually across the net there seems to be some public backlash against this in "support" (not the right word i know, but anyway) of gb. if anything people have rallied around him and against the media machine.
it was a simple spelling mistake and the media are trying to milk a political situation on the back of the mother's grief. shame on them really.

To be P.M I imagine is a full time and busy job, to get a hand written letter off the P.M (anyone) is a personal touch that should be welcomed.
In previous wars you just got a telegram with the blanks filled in.
What annoyed me was that the paper descibed the apology as "grovelling" why?
If you're wrong, for whatever reason, apologise. There's no weakness in apologising, if more people quickly realised their error and just said sorry the country would be in a far better state.

Sorry Ludwig but just cause she is a greiving mother what else is she allowed to get away with?
Why because she is grieveing is she allowed to act like a c*unt? And oh yes she IS acting like one. Imagine taping a call when someone is apologising to you? What kinda of freak would do that?
Someone phones you to apologise and you use it to manipulate them? There is something seriously wrong with some people!

Naomi don't think i've ever actually disagreed with you before but im sorry you're wrong!
Yes shes upset fair enough. First he spelt her name wrong....BIG DEAL hardly a news worthy story affair at all. Then he apologises and she absolutely manipulates the situation and is probably making money out of it!!
Just cause shes upset doesn't excuse her acting like an absolute **** I think shes a wicked eveil person and i'm being serious! I think she is filth!

Sherminator, I think that's a bit strong, and I do think we need to look deeper. I can't imagine what it must be like to lose a child, but as a mother that has always been my greatest fear, and it would be my greatest sorrow. That aside, Ludwig said she is 'a grieving mother looking for someone to blame, being manipulated by unscrupulous journalists', and I agree with him. She's devastated and she's angry - and this newspaper is taking full advantage of that for it's own political ends, which I think is confirmed by your own admission of it being hardly a newsworthy story.
naomi Im def not saying she shouldn't be grieving I can't begin to imagine how horrible it must be for her.
However I don't think that because she is grieving she can have carte blanche to act any way she wants. She def cant be excused from acting horribly to someone who is apologising to her. forget the media influence when someone apologises to you, you should not treat them like that!
