EU, A shinning New Era?
Now that Europe has finally been conquered and duly subjugated what is the next step for the united states of Europe? EU wide income tax? forces? foriegn Policy? The Europhiles are going to great lengths to reassure us that the new president etc are mere spokes people, am I alone in finding that worrying? Is this like Heath in 1973 saying " There are those that think this move will lead to us being absorbed into a European supersstate, I can reassure you that, that is not the case"? - words to that effect. Do you think we'll ever get the accounts signed off?

You are looking at the wrong thing
The shining new era is not the two new roles - it is majority voting - this will start to streamline things and stop it being the lumbering behmoth that you Europhobes are always complaining about!
Are you Irish TTS? from Luxembourg perhaps?
I can't imagine why you'd be worried about dominance from France and Germany being from one of the largest European states - ( soon to be the largest )
France and Germany are more worried about having a whopping great UK cuckoo in the nest!

So much for millions dying in the war then.
Brown acheived with a single swipe of a pen what hitler failed to do. Traitor he should be hung drawn ans quatered and his head put on a spike at the City gates.
And if France is so wonderfull why are they not net contributors like us and Germany.
Truth is they want to asset strip us.

I'd say the quality of life in France (and probably Germany) is much the same as here but it does vary quite a bit.
Employment's quite hard to come by in the South - many come to the North to find good jobs.
French healthcare topped the WHO league table a while back
I spent a few months living and working in Germany but that's 20 years ago now so I can't really comment.

"together we are stronger" - Jake I' glad you said it! Yes if it where the case I'd be 100% in agreement, however the rest of the EU are in it for what they can get out of it. It's a lovely fluffy bunny idea but in reality it's a club for shafting the British, we are the only kin idiots that obey the ever more rediculous rules where all the other countries send their most EU sceptics to Europe to get the best deal for them. Where as we send EU friendly gutless idealist little sh1t bags like Kinnochio and patten to lay down and get butt fcuked on prime time TV. Together we would be stronger, indeed jake, indeed!

R1 - continuing Le Grande Project until the commissars become unbearable and then bloody insurgence until individual states seperate again.
The EU is now built to the Soviet design with the parliament just rubber stamping the decisions made by unelected committees. The way it is run will lead to more and more corruption.
The Eastern bloc grew more and more authoritarian until the populace turned, USSR disintegrated, Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia etc all ended in bloodshed. Meanwhile the population suffered shortages of essential items for no reason except left/marxist politics. It will take many many years to grow and turn bad but it could all happen to the EU, though I doubt we will be queuing for bread. I am sure membership will lower overall prosperity and those who suffer most will of course be the ones most likely to vote for it - see Glasgow East.
Europe will never acheive the unity of the USA and attempts to create a federal Europe will be doomed in the long run.

Jake - you really cannot imagine a UK govt standing up to a corporation? No wonder you seem to want to be part of the superstate. Again I say we are better off out of the EU which has sponsored some amazing corporatism and will get worse - see Greek and Italian civil engneering projects for evidence of large scale corruption, tied in with several German firms too.
If Microsoft etc want to trade and sell here they will conform to our rules, better if we can make our own rules and better any lobbying has to occur in Westminster where we might be able to uncover and control it rather than in Brussells where we could n't do anything about it even if it made the front pages
We need a government with strength and honesty, concerned for the UK rather than lining their own pockets. Sadly few of the LibLabCon troughers give voters that option. - Hopefully R1 will run for president
