Is it time he resigned gracefully and took up his place on the back bench? (hopefully the opposition back bench come next year, but I fear that lot will get another term).

I don't think Mr Blunkett will resign unless he feels circumstances prevent him from carrying out his duties effectively. This argument is already being voiced by his oponents, but intil he is in agreement, he will stay in office, and attempt to ride out this political storm. If the situation has not been resolved before May, the generally accepted date of the next Election, then action may be taken by the Party to resolve it.
If your prediction of the next election result is correct, Flanker - which, God willing, it will be - what on earth does it say about what I deduce is your "lot"?

Couldn't agree more - my lot are not good enough for the role of HM official opposition, so certainly won't be good enough for government: unfortunately, I have no answer - the Tories are not good enough, can't even be bothered to lower myself to comment on the Whigs, and New Liars are untrustworthy duplicitous bunterish lickspittles.

We are all in a bit of a sorry state IMHO.

If he's cleared of any wrongdoing then he will not resign. The fact that the enquiry is not very broad is the main point of discussion here, meaning he will probably be found to be in the clear.
What I am concerned about is that, although Blunkett was the most authoritarian and illiberal Home Secretary for fifty years, his replacement will probably not be much better.  Blunkett himself was not the problem; the problem is the whole control-freak attitude of the government itself.  It is clear that "my lot" will make sweeping advances in the next general election.
An early Christmas present for the country,he's gone at last!! Hope he takes his ID card idea with him and put it where the Sun don't shine!!
David Blunkett might have resigned, but it was mentioned on the news, that Charles Clarke might replace him - heavens above!
