Nope, never heard of him.....but even if I had, I can't imagine describing somebody who can run up a suit or a frock as a "truly GREAT Brit"

Great compared to who?
Question Author
I should've explained - 'Great' as 'one of the best in his field'. I genuinely assumed he would take over from Westwood in the same way that Gaultier has taken over from Dior as France's most interesting designer.

I shall wear my AMcQ jacket in his honest tomorrow night.
Artistic talent can amount to greatness. Surely that's a given? Or wasn't Picasso a great Spaniard?

flip_flop

I compare him to Gaultier, Versace and Galliano. I thought her was THAT good.

And the shock value comes from the fact that he was young, successful and at the top of his game.

Complete shame.
Its subjective quinlad. Personally I don't think Picasso's work is great.

I've never heard of this McQueen guy. Now that could be because I'm not particularly interested in people that can make a frock or a suit (my sartorial leanings begin and end with a pair of Jones the Bootmakers boots, Levis and a Ralph Lauren), but even I'm aware of 'popular culture'.

No, I believe I am unaware of this guy because he isn't, by any stretch of the meaning of the word, "GREAT".
dm states he was born in the 'east end',

of glasgow presumably....

that explains the pics of him in full scottish

Never heard of him.
^^Ditto
He was quite famous. If you haven't heard of him you probably need to do a bit more reading or something.

Here's his obituary.

Just my own tribute -havent read the rest as they are personal.

I am so sad for a human being to be so sad for the death of his mum to tip him over the edge.

An absolute tragedy for all the family -forget his 'fame' he was a son brother lover friend and its extremely sad :(
