So these are an example of our present day university students?

Not a bunch of squadies on a booze up before being shipped out to Afghanistan.

Not a horde of drunken football "supporters"

Not a gang of sink-estate thugs, out on the binge.

Not even "normal" youngsters, who can be seen on our cities streets most weekends.

No, these should be an example of our "educated" classes, ambassadors of Britain, no less.

I leave others to comment.

It's not Cameron and Osborne's Bullingdon Club is it.

Or William '14 Pints a day' Hague?

"Normal" youngsters do this every weekend in suburban towns all over the country EVERY weekend.

There's a programme called 'Booze Britain' where you can see their antics.

Also, you don't have to be particularly elite to go to university nowadays. The people you see in those photos aren't Arabellas and Trsitrams - they're Staceys and Deans.
i dunno, those blokes look like they coud be called quentin or tarquin.
Surely not! I can't imagine a Quentin or Tarquin ever going to a Spanish Costa
AOG

why would anyone be shocked at this?
are you a maiden aunt?

The 'louts' 'swearing' are presumably trainee accountants as they are wearinh KPMG tee shirts.
(KPMG in the UK is a leading provider of professional services including audit, tax and advisory. As part of KPMG Europe LLP we are part of the largest integrated accounting firm in Europe)

Shock horror that students should go on the razzle.

aog may never have been a student, but this happened in the 50s, 60s and 70s.

These kids just do it in larger numbers and in nicer locations than we could afford in 1973.

Bring back the "Student Prince" they knew how to hold their beer in Heidelberg.
Well, I guess this demolishes the frequent image you're always evoking of the UK being exclusive among European countries for having foreigners disrupt law & order...

With regards to the topic at hand, I can only speak from personal experience - which is remarkably over-rated in terms of its accuracy - so I'd suggest taking my slant on it with a pinch of salt.

I'm a student myself (I'm also teetotal), and I think it is fair to say that the majority of student socials -are- based around getting very drunk - from skimming through the article, I wouldn't even say that the people there are necessarily unrepresentative of British students, it's a slightly more extreme version of what you see/hear about quite regularly with regard to student social life.

As others have said, though, this really isn't anything to be shocked or horrified about. It doesn't necessarily say anything about our "educated" classes (as you put it) - speak to them sober and you'll still find a lot of very intelligent, decent people (you'll also find some morons but hey, what can you do?) Neither is it the whole picture (though it is probably most of it) - as I say, I'm teetotal and have a perfectly functional social life.
quite right zeuhl. it was prevalent.

alcohol - look at this, you can tell all the mums are sauced up on gin.

wreckless driving - whilst flagrantly exposing a bit of thigh, which can cause other road users to crash.

Are these the same students who plead poverty ?
>violence - it was invented in the 90s you know

90s !!!!!

That looks more like the 60s - Mods and Rockers on their usual bank holiday punch up at Margate or Clacton
The Spanish economy is totally bu66ered. Nice to see these youngsters helping them out.
"Surely not! I can't imagine a Quentin or Tarquin ever going to a Spanish Costa"

I think they tend to go to Rock in Cornwall for a nice bout of antisocial behaviour instead.

Attn. VHG. Might I suggest Ankou was employing irony. And it looks like Brighton to me.
Cambridge university was founded after two students at Oxford were hanged for murdering a local woman and the university suspended; students migrated elsewhere for a while. So bad behaviour has been going on since 1209 at least - and they don't seem to be murdering anyone these days.

All the same, I sympathise with AOG: I wouldn't want this lot descending on my town, regardless of whether they're Kevs or Quentins, accountancy students or classical scholars. Given that the Spaniards don't share the British tradition of binge-drinking, they must be pretty amazed. They should draft in a few hundred police next year and deal with it (though I suspect the local tavern owners may be in two minds about it).
Nice clutch bag our friend is modeling - must nip out and get myself one .
Surely it's All the fault of Europe ,innit ?
Young British Males & Females+ Cheap Booze=Hooliganism and Violence and Mindless Behaviour!
Ah yes, I remember it well ... (sigh) ...
