NOTW entrapment

What do you think of the way the News Of The World entraps celebrities, such as snooker's John Higgins and now the Duchess Of York? Do you think it's unfair, or do you think these celebs are fair game and deserve such exposure?

I'm not sure why everyone is so aghast at the idea of "entrapment"

If someone tried to entrap most people, they wouldn't take the bait.

But ... I don't know what the NOTW stories are all about.

I have always been uneasy with the way NOTW carries out its 'sting' operations.
However, there have been many cases where the exposure of the victim has been genuinely 'in the public interest'.
Exposing 'love rats' may interest the public, but it is hardly the same thing.........

I think they act on tip offs (the 'victims' have previous) and then set up a sting. If they werent greedy and arrogant they'd walk away from any such approach.
Only themselves to blame.

And yes to answer your question, these greedy people who are in a privileged position
are never satisfied they always want more, they should try living in the real world like most of us, so good on ya NOTW even though I don't buy it keep on exposing these money grabbing cheats.

Totally fair. Without investigative journalism MPs would still be ripping us off on expenses, etc etc.

Many spies and major criminals have been caught that way and if phone tapping could be used as evidence many more would. However don't be surprised if the human rights brigade gets it banned.

A leech and ne'er do well who has received her come uppance - I could think of a few more of the same ilk as her who I'd love to also see "nobbled" in that way.

I'd love to know who's on your list, OrcadianOil. Mine would include the ghastly Mariella Frostrup, Fiona Bruce, Lorraine Kelly, Kate Garraway, Emma Crosby, and primarily Chris bleedin Evans. Strikes me with Fergie, she must be incredibly dumb to have lost all her money in the first place.

So the Duchess of Pork got caught doing what many people with well placed contacts do. In her own words "I open doors" Lobby firms earn millions from making introductions to politicians and people of influence. It might be tacky but it's how the world works.

canary, the expenses scandal had very little to do with investigative journalism. Someone connected with the fees office took the list to the Telegraph and the Telegraph bought it. Chequebook journalism and investigative journalism aren't the same thing.

I'm unfussed by Fergie. If people are prepared to pay big money for access to Britain's Golfing Ambassador, and she's prepared to offer it, then the law of supply and demand can sort it out. She's not ripping you or me off, unlike MPs.

It did, but not by the Telegraph but by Heather Brooke.

If Heather Brooke had not pushed for details of MPs expenses for a number of years then there never would have been a list of MPs expenses on CD to leak to the press.

It is all down to Heather Brooke. it is just the Telegraph took the credit.

fair point, VHG, Heather Brooke did a lot of hard work and got little credit for it; and we are in her debt. But I don't think in the end she was actually the one who got the story on to the front pages.

However, the editor of the Telegraph who did run with the story has now been sacked. Fleet St justice, eh?

This is an interesting one as I don't think she has broken any laws or done anything wrong. Whilst it might appear ridiculous and be an embarrassment to the Monarchy, I am unsure as to whether this is a 'public interest' story
