Today the Tories will outline a plan to get the workshy off benefits. How can they possibly achieve this when for the past 13 years nothing has been done to solve it?

Anyway I'm happy there are going to be 2m extra jobs by the end of the year.
trt....I thought it was 2years, but you may well be right.
Simple,,set the dole money at £5 a day in money and the same in food vouchers, for the first six months then it is lowered, each six months until no actual money is paid out.
Stop any payments to non uk residents, make people on incapacity benefit sign on like everyone else claiming benefits also randon visits to incapacity claimants and on the spot medical tests,,no benefits to be paid to non uk nationals unless they have paid uk taxes for at least three years.
The simple thing is,,people will work if you force them.
Yup, force them into jobs which don't pay them enough to live on.........which may entitle them to claiming Tax Credits (another type of benefit/handout).
Make people on Incapacity Benefit sign on! How am I supposed to get to the offices to sign on. I can't walk further than 20 yards. Do you really think I can afford a taxi there and back, when I don't even get free prescriptions, unlike those on Job Seekers?
At least they work Jack.
Another benefit that is out of control is child benefit,,why the hell does the state pay people to have kids, this makes no sense to me, surely if you are going to have kids it out of love and you should not gain financially, cut child benefit to the first two kids only,,after that its your choice to have more than two but dont expect the state to pay for them.
Child benefit in my eyes should be cut to one child within five years then to nil in ten years.
Child benefit is a life line for some working families. Would you rather the kids went hungry? There are some hard working families out there on low wages who don't spend their wages on booze and fags but rent and bills.
Jan1957 you should have a monthly visit from a benefits agent so you can sign on and state you are still medically unable to work or travel to the benefits office, also they could give you details of work you might be able to undertake from home.
Most people can do somthing worthwhile.
don't know if it's been already said but..
Clean the filth of the beaches that lazy sods have left after them
Clean the Graffiti from buildings
Pick all litter up
They will soon be asking to work properly for a wage!
ummmm,,if you can not afford to pay for your own off spring you should not have them.
Sorry but the simple truth is Britain has become a pop em out nation,,the more kids you have the more benefits you can claim and i feel this has got to stop.
Also i do not believe that the majority of child benefit claiments actually use the money for the benefit of there kids.
In my situation....ran my own business with my partner, had three kids with plenty of money to spare. Decided I had to leave him because of violence and infidelity. Got another job but now as a single parent money is tight. I couldn't have predicted that happening. Child benefit was always spent on food.
I wouldn't say no to home visits jed, and I would love to work from home. I have tried everywhere to find something but most them are rip off scams.
yup not everyone on this is a scrounger..
Just wondering how many people on this thread have been unemployed at any point - especially those with the more - er- strident views?

Personally I was just for about 5 months in the mid 90s
But if you have been 'forced' into a job and you *still* can't make ends meet, where do you go from there ?

Don't get me wrong, my first job was in the Supplementary Benefits dept of what was then DHSS so I know the scams, etc.

However, I believe that in the last 26 years (since I started there) the 'dole' for a single person has increased by about £ 20 per week !!!!
My joining salary was £ 4002...............I bet *that* has gone up substantially more in comparison ?!?
3 months for me Jake and £50 a week I think it worked out to. I stayed with my mother so no housing benefits etc... one of the more miserable times in my life.
I applied for redindancy when I was 57 and lived off my redundancy pay-out until I was 60 when I claimed my pension.............I was told off by someone at the DWP for not claiming benefits......
59 for me crafty,,,
couldn't claim a cent, never could because of the private pension
