A little bit more complicated than it seems, I believe they were offered ports in Egypt and Israel, which they quite rightly declined.
The purpose was to demonstrate the blockade and show the Israelis as brutal occupiers.
They succeeded.
I saw a minister from Israel on the news, he was talking about Iran and Syria sending arms to insurgents, a lot of hot air, these vessels sailed from Cyprus I understand.

One thing that is evident from Israeli actions is that they believe in instant justice even if it means innocent civilians are caught up in it. They don't believe in normal justice involving courts and the criminal justice system which is time consuming. You can see their point sometimes.

Just compare it with justice in this country where terrorists are charged and released and end up suing the government and claiming their human rights.

Better to rid the world of these evil fanatics.

What would Geezer's reaction be if Iran pulled a stunt like this?

The Israelis are determined to control access to Gaza as part of their long term plan to drive out all Palestinians and enable enlargement of Israeli occupied territories to accommodate their rapidly growing immigrant population.

They where enforcing a blockade, the ships knew about it they knew it would be enforced, they went anyway, when boarded they attacked the soldiers, i'd say that's clearly their own fault. Not comparable to the piracy the apologists above are referring to.

sandyRoe .Why were there 500 activists on a ship that was supposed to be only carrying supplies.? It only needs a crew of 12.
It indicates they were there to cause trouble, either on board or in Gaza.
So you have the situation that about 20 armed Israelis were attacked by an overwhelming force.
What would you do sandyRoe in that situation ? No platitudes please , we hear plenty of them.

the flotilla clearly had two aims, to deliver aid to the Palestinian's , and to give publicity to the fact that Israel has turned Gaza into the biggest concentration camp the world has ever seen.
You say they were there to cause trouble. You're entitled to an opinion.
People have short memories. It's not so long ago that Israel bombed Gaza, dropped illegal phosphorus bombs on innocent civilians, and killed 1400 of them.

Neither did you explain what 500 activists were doing on the ship, when it only needed a crew of a dozen. Neither can you deny the film showing the activists wielding bars and beating those Israelis on the deck. Neither can you deny a number of Israelis are seriously injured and are in hospital unless you agree with the Syrian minister, who claimed the Israelis had inflicted the injuries on themselves.
Whatever the rights and wrongs of Hamass terrorists and Jewish extremists is irrelevant to what happened on board and that was my question which you have failed to answer.
My sympathies are with the Palestinians but unlike you I am not blind to their failings.

The people on the boats were in international waters. They were defending themselves from an illegal attack by people who are little more than pirates.
