sorry didn't know. Its such a bad thing though it needs bringing up again, just in case anyone missed it.
Calm down, calm down.

It's a legal technicality.

He's still sentenced to life imprisonment.

He can't be considered (not given, just considered) for parole for 40 years!!!
Instead of 50?

Try and get over it. :-)

Your compassion is truly overwhelming

You'd be singing a different song if it was your daughter he'd murdered
And he's 51

There seems to be an automatic knee jerk reaction the moment any sentence is reduced for any reason.

A prime cause of sentence inflation
If he had I'd want him and his whole family chopped to pieces with small rusty knives

but it wasn't

so I can be more objective - which is what the law needs to be. The question was about the legal proceedings I believe.

any more asinine comments?

.
But no one else in Whiting's family commited this crime

Should the Cumbrian gunmans family also be 'chopped to pieces with small rusty knives' too in your opinion?
Yes JoeLuke

I think you've adequately demonstrated why sentences are determined by professional judges with long experience of the law and not by comittes of grieving relatives wielding pitchforks.

Or people demonstrating how much they care and empathise with the victim
life should mean life for murdering a child - and for murdering anyone for that matter - theres absolutely no moral justification for reducing Whitings sentence.
Same old, same old................ Hang em high why don't we and we can sit around knitting why they do it. Why bother with a legal system at all in fact.
...and joeluke could wave his flag!
Hey, I'd gladly place the hemp around their neck myself
Golly, this is a little hot-bed of a thread !!
Reducing his sentence is like "downgrading" the crime. An insult to the poor girls family.

I am sorry if anyone thought this comment was a bit OTT,but this case got to me and I feel Sarah(the mum) has had a heck of a lot to cope with and it just is not fair.
YES i know he will probably spend the rest of his life inside, but what about Sara?
I know not all cases are the same,I was being specific to this one,and I understand the mitigating circumstances in a lot of cases, but I would just like to say to jake the peg,are you saying that Judges never get it wrong?
Point of fact Old Dutch and TTG

Whiting's sentence has not been reduced - it is still Life Imprisonment.

The point when he could be considered for parole is academic. He will not be back on our streets anytime soon and almost certainly Never!

.
So what a complete waste of money.
You just know that if he'd been given 30 and it'd been raised to 40 all the right whingers would be cheering
ummmm

yes. welcome to the judicial system.

:-)
