Do ethnic miniorities who claim to be victims of racism have a point...?

Is this why Asian families tend to live in overwhelmingly Asian areas?
For self-protection perhaps?

Actually - there IS a programme on the BBC at the moment where you have a group of white girls living in, and being filmed in a predominately black area. It's called 'The Peckham Finishing School For Girls', and is being shown on BBC3.
Thus far, they haven't faced any racist abuse.
It could be argued that whilst racism isn't a one way street, the traffic certainly seems to flow more in one direction than the other.

I used to be a Police Officer, and my first posting was to a station in a certain English city, not so many years ago, where there are large ethnic populations. My beat specifically covered one such area with an overwhelming Afro-Caribbean population. It is one of the cities where there were so called "race riots" in the 80s.
WPCs were not allowed on foot patrol there, and males had to do foot patrol in pairs. The actual square footage for the area was comparitavely small, but nevertheless there were always 4 pairs of foot patrols on duty 24/7, plus patrol cars, plain clothes Officers, and Task Force vans.
Why? Because primarily of the extremely high crime rate, including street robberies("muggings") which in my 5 years there were always perpetrated by black youth on white victims. There was also a roaring drugs trade, thefts, burglaries, assaults, and many prostitutes littering the street corners. In my time, at least two of my colleagues were knifed in the back(literally), I was once hospitalised, and many other Officers were assaulted. I have not exaggerated any of these details.
I could outline far more details, but the point I'm making is that not only is racism a two way street, but filling areas with only one ethnic group is counter productive and divisive.

I hear what you're saying...and there are areas of Northern Ireland, Manchester and (especially Glasgow) which suffer the same kinds of social/criminal problems.
But therein lies the problem - minorities (gay, black, Asians, Jews) tend to feel safety in numbers...which is one of the reasons 'gbettos' form. Only the very bravest of black/Asian/gay families would voluntarily move onto a 100% White working class estate.
How do we resolve that?

SP you are a racist.
"Only the very bravest of black/Asian/gay families would voluntarily move onto a 100% White working class estate."
Outrageous.
Your anti white rantings really annoy me.
I live in an area with 99% of the population "White British",an Asian family have lived over the road for 15 years and have never suffered any kind of abuse.
Their 2 children are the only "ethnic minority" in our local school and nobody could care less.
We are not all rabid racists you know.
Get rid of that chip.

I think we should be proud of the BBC's investigative journalism. Better to confront issues than to ignore them eh?
Also, remember - it's not like they went looking for trouble. As mightyWBA points out - there are plenty of places that Asians can live alongside whites without any problems.
mightyWBA - I implied that all white areas are inherently 'dodgy'. I worded that posting very badly. However, as OrcadianOil pointed out earlier, there are places in this country where you have to be very careful if you are in a minority.

What's a "gay family"? No such thing in my book. I once had to live with a group of other guys in a B+B for several months run by a homosexual couple. My mates and I had a great rapport with them, and they joined in the "gay" banter, most of which was instigated by the 2 blokes themselves. And all of that was nearly 40 years ago when we were all perceived nowadays to have been very "unenlightened".
Far too much is made of the colour of someone's skin, their sexual preference etc, but there should be no need for human beings to either be made, or to choose, to live virtually in ghettos, certainly not in the UK anyway. If they're decent people, that's what matters.

A gay family is just a regular family, but where the adults are in a same sex relationship.
Good for you at being so forward thinking back in the 70s. However, don't you think by and large, you were probably in a minority being 'okay about gays' back then?
You're very likely in the majority now.

"You're very likely in the majority now"
You're joking right?
That is so funny, I haven't laughed so much in ages
If you seriously believe that the majority of males TRULY accept homosexuality (as opposed to pretend they accept it because political correctness forces them to) then you are sadly mistaken

I'm not sadly mistaken.
It's YOU who are mistaken:

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to look up those figures. I'd always suspected that Britain was a lot more liberal than some like to suggest.
Now I have the figures to back it up.
And this was a blind survey - political correctness doesn't enter it.
Do you have any evidence to show that people are less liberal?
Would you like to share them with us?
Still laughing?
No.

"in a minority"? Don't know - I didn't go around wondering what others were thinking. I made up my own mind about people based on their character as human beings, not whether or not they were hetro- or homo- sexual.
Too many preconceptions can cloud your judgement of an individual and can deny you the relationship/acquaintance of a genuine human being.
