Is this why Asian families tend to live in overwhelmingly Asian areas?

For self-protection perhaps?

birdie:

Joeluke has quite openly stated elsewhere that he considers it to be un-manly to withhold judgement on other people's sex lives:

SP.....the survey in your link says 'public attitudes', a lot more females than males are tolerant of gays

If you read my last post properly I was talking about MALE attitudes to gays, which would be a far higher percentage but it would still not be a true reflection because some men would not give their true answer - they would give the answer they thought they should give in our uber PC society, as opposed to the answer that they truly feel

To many men get splinters in their @r$e$ by sitting on the fence on this issue

birdie1971.....political correctness has a lot to answer for.

2 scenarios

(a) 1000 men are together in a large room and each has to give their views on homosexuality verbally out loud so that the rest can hear

(b) the same 1000 men are asked privately (and their answers are never revealed to the other men) about their views on the subject

(b) would be a far higher percentage than (a)

Your example contradicts what you've just written.

The respondants in the survey were giving their answers blind. They weren't identifiable and their answers wouldn't be traced - so they WERE answered privately.

The survey was carried out by Natcen (see more information at http://www.natcen.ac....ex-couples/findings).

I think what you're thinking about is anal sex. I think you may be right that a majority of men may cringe at the thought of it, but then again, perhaps the men interviewed in the survey understand that they're not being asked to think about anal sex - they're just being asked if they're cool with gays.

...and it turns out that a surprisingly high number are. Let's assume that there were an equal number of men and women surveyed...I suspect that more women were okay with gays because straight women tend not to get hung up on the sex aspect of gay relationships...whereas with a minority of straight men, it seems to be the be all and end all.

Still, have you got any figures to back up your point? Do you think you might be projecting your own views and extrapolating them?
How did we get on to banditry? Stop picking on joe luke, he has a point, no one will give their true views these days for fear of persectution and I doubt anyone trusts the so call "annonimity" of these surveys, most want a quiet life and would rather tell a porky then get a haulled over the coals for not having the "correct" view of something. You yourself (SP) made a point the other day that you often say things privately that would be considered intollerant/bigoted if you said them publicly so you guard yourself all the time, what seething mass of bigotry hides under the SP surface eh? I imagine it involves straight white people mostly! How many of us dare say what we really think these days? People can lose their jobs when they let slip even the slightest "bad view" in front of the new breed if PC mafia.

No-one need lie on a survey.

They don't take your name and address do they?

It's like saying that people didn't vote for the BNP because they were afraid of being branded a racist.

It's private...PC doesn't come into it. How could it possibly come into it. The only interaction is with the survey form.

And joeluke isn't being picked on. He raised a point, and I'm simply responding to it with facts and figures.
"would rather tell a porky then get a haulled over the coals for not having the "correct" view of something."

Except the ones (the minority, that is) who did express a negative view. Can't see any evidence of them being 'raked over the coals' either.
I'm sorry if I offend anyone, but in my experience, joelukes scenario would actually work the other way.....
Fill a room with a thousand blokes and you'll hear all the usual comments, '----bandits, uphill gardners, chutney ferrets' blah, blah, blah. No-one wants to be the voice of dissent.
Talk to them individually and you're likely to find that they actually have precious little worries or thoughts on the matter...........

The anal sex thing is NOT the main issue, it's the whole 2 men touching, kissing, having sex thing that repulses most straight (honest answering) men

Middle aged and older men tend to be far less gay-tolerant than younger men because our uber PC society has brainwashed the younger ones into thinking that gay is ok

Surveys are NOT a true reflection of peoples views. They are taken from a minute sample of people. The survey you posted a link to was taken from 4486 adults, which is a major percentage of our population is it? Given that the adult population of the UK is roughly 50 million, by my calculations that makes it a survey of 1 in every 11,145 people

Pretty accurate and representative huh?
JTH.....thats b ollocks

What if the results of a verbal survey of every male adult in the UK were published and those who were anti gay were named and 'shamed'?

Thats my point - many men would lie because they wouldn't want to be seen as homophobic
And many who when in a 'herd' agree with the majority view revise their answers when they do not fear being thought as some sort of sympathiser.........
Cattle wouldn't actually be included in the survey jack
Quite right..........it ought to have been flock. For the sheep-like behaviour.
More like poultry

The chickens who are scared to air their true views
Ah. We finally agree.
Haha, that'll never happen on this subject

Cos I know I'm right

You know how surveys work don't you?

A sample is taken which is representative of a whole. That's how surveys work.

You state that most men think like you. I've given you a survey that proves otherwise, and now you argue that surveys themselves are flawed.

I think what you're trying to say (correct me if I'm wrong) is that most straight blokes are uncomfortable with the idea of gay sex, in the same way that most gay blokes would rather chew through a packet of razor blades than voluntarily look at the average straight bloke with his shirt off (because of the whole 'muffin tops' thing).

But that's not the point. The point is that the overwhelming majority of people under (say) 55 have been brought up in a live and let live society.

We have the last Labour government partly to thank for that.
sp,
I have to take you to task over your last claim re "overwhelming majority of people". I'm over 55 and can assure you that we were never indoctrinated one way or another regarding people's sexuality.

I don't know how you can make such an unsubstantiated claim? Personally, I went to schools where there was no such thing as "sex education", but it didn't mean that my attitudes towards homosexuals was influenced adversely.
sp ^

"most straight blokes are uncomfortable with the idea of gay sex"

Got it in one

Surveys ARE flawed, they prove nothing other than showing the views of a negligible percentage of the population

and surely you're not suggesting that the average straight man has a muffin top and the average gay 'man' has a washboard stomach?

Did you get those 'facts' from another of your ultra reliable surveys?

oh, and i think you'll find we live in a 'forced by political correctness to live and let live' society

It's a fact...with the exception of sports stars, the average straight chap over the age of 25 has a pretty horrible physique (unless they're Brazilian or Australian).

There's an obvious reason for this.

Come on - you must be able to guess.
