Just looking at the front pages on sky news and the Mail has a headline story about councils riffling through the bins to ascertain wealth/race etc. Now the Mail usually has a scrap of truth in these cornflake spitters. Anyone know the full/real story?

How can they tell your wealth from the contents of your bin?

Whether you've bought Heinz Baked Beans or Tesco Value ones?
Surely they can only do this while the rubbish is still in your wheelie bin (before it is thrown into the back of a huge lorry with everyone elses rubbish).

And as most people now put rubbish inside plastic bags inside their wheelie bin they would have to raid your wheelie bin while it is outside your house, and then open up each individual plastic bag.

Or do they take the plastic bags aways first (labelling where each one came from) and THEN open them.

Are they really going to do all this?

/// Whats next The Thought Thugs? ///

We already have them on AB.

They try to tell everybody what you are thinking.
Not sure what the problem is, it is just like having a water meter.

The aim is not to steal identity or find confidential information, or even discover the name of the person who the bin belongs to (that can be easily found on Council Tax records).

The aim is to find out who are not recycling, and find out why. The reason that is important, is because landfill costs a lot of money, and the council do not want to pay for waste that could be recycled instead.

I assume different ethicities are targeted to ascertain whether, lack of understanding or simply not being able to read the instructions, is the reason they do not recycle.

27 = 4bins
29 = 1bin

Which property has more occupants :)
29 is a flat with 4 dwellings.
Totally of course I apologise Geezer.

Oldgit - Are you not going to highlight as thread the EDL protest against muslim mosque on Saturday in Dudley?

I agree with Gromit's post its more about recycling.
I don't sit online continuously by the way hence my sporadic posts.

Steve - what on earth is 'ignorance is strength?' Or is that meant to be ironic?
Oldgit I suggest you offer some sort of answer excluding your classic 'sympathy' one before I end up posting a final harsh and mean rant at you.

Eddie - I couldn't help but notice you started another thread regarding recycling. Am I now officially the news trouble-maker? The one every-one avoids?

I just cannot stand injustice - it really p!sses me off.

Why?
Have a shock if they go in my non recycling bin - I have two Boxers who cr*p for England !!
^^I was just going to say much the same, a cat litter tray is a pretty good deterrent from bin-snooping!
my dogs is a bin snooper when she's hungry.
The seagulls round out way are bin-snoopers, bag-shredders, noisy whatsits, bin day or not.
Where's yer bin?
I bin to Hong Kong.
Nah, where's yer wheelie bin?
I weally bin to Hong Kong.
Geezer I'm really sorry for hijacking this thread and it won't happen again on any thread. I didn't want to start a new one

Steve - Sorry - I think in the context your statements are ironic. That particular one 'ignorance is strength' struck me as in the news yesterday was the story of high chocolate prices and profit and as we all know the farmers are not going to see any of it when all they ask for is afew pence more for their choco beans, not for a motorbike or clothing but fresh water and in particular - education for their children - apologises.

Oldgit - This is from yesterdays express covering the English Defence League protest in Dudley on Saturday-

Bricks and cans were thrown at officers forcing them to change into riot gear and police dogs were brought in as a back-up.....

After speeches the protest drew to a close at around 3.30pm, but trouble flared again as several hundred tried to get to Tower Street where the Interfaith Network and Unite Against Fascism (UAF), were holding their own event...

The EDL said it was demonstrating against a planned £18million mosque in Hall Street but Dudley Council said protest was “pointless” as talks continue with Muslim leaders over an alternative to the scheme.

Councillor Millward said: “Yet again this group of outside extremists brought disorder and violence to our town.

“Honest, hard working people who run local shops and businesses have again been hit as hard as anyone.

So muslims can protest against the English until their hearts are content but when the boots on the other foot it's different?
