It's not a lot to ask. No one is asking them to bear their arms, legs, midriffs, etc.; just their faces and only their faces. It is not un-Islamic for a woman to show her face in public. It is not written in the Koran or any Hadith that a woman cannot show her face in public. To believe otherwise is to accept the lies of a few misogynistic, bigoted men who wish to keep Muslim women effectively invisible and fearful of their own sexuality.

Sp1814 – I think 'trt' has answered you question don't you? And why the three question marks suggesting incredulity at the very idea that every member of our secular society should show their face to others rather then wear a mask prescribed by misogynistic male members of the Islamic faith?
Rather than post comments suggesting that I'm being outrageous, why not post verifiable proof that the Islamic faith requires women to wear this particular garb? Why not quote the specific verses of the Koran (and/or Hadith) that instruct women to cover their entire bodies and faces with nothing but a narrow slit to look out of?
Why don't you do that and blow my argument out of the water?

Sp1814 – I won't wait for you to attempt the above because I know that it cannot be done. The Koran and all the Hadiths do not prescribe that a women should cover herself entirely. The very idea that they do is a preposterous lie inflicted upon the ignorant – ie. you and others like you.
All that Islam requires of a woman is that she dresses 'modestly'. But what is modestly? This is where the fine art of religious interpretation kicks in. To cut a long story short, the misogynistic male Islamic 'scholars' came to the conclusion that the most modest form of dress that a woman could wear is a big sack. As these enlightened men were generous as well as wise, they allowed the sack to have a narrow slit so that the woman within could see where she was going and not bump into the walls or doors while she was cooking, cleaning and serving her husband.
Weren't they thoughtful? It almost brings a tear to my eye just to think how thoughtful these men were – simultaneously empowering their women by making them wear a sack and also protecting them from the threat of male violence and rape.

Regarding me reading the Daily Express, I thought this was a free country and one could read what publications they wished.
But you are incorrect in your findings, I read most newspapers, but tend to prefer the Daily Mail and the Express because they are the only two that seen to have anything interesting to say.
The proof is in the number of answers I receive, to my questions.

AOG – I only made the comment because the majority of the links you provide are to the Daily Mail website. However, I completely agree with you that it is (so far) a free country and you are indeed entitled to read anything you chose.
With hindsight, my comment may have appeared rather derogatory. There was no offence intended.
And please don't stop posting – the news section would be awfully dull without your contributions.
