In these times of austerity, it is heartening to see the British public generously donating to the victims of the Pakistan flood.

we are at risk of digressing from the OP....
Any news on how much Saudi Arabia has donated?
Nice post Gromit............shame about some of the answers.
McMouse, we are not talking donations from countries here, just from individuals in the UK. international relief aid will be different entirely, how would we know if individual Saudis have donated?

Good to see you are now up to speed.

"What is your ethnic group?"

C Asian or Asian British. 747,285 people ticked Pakistani

Incidently, where are YOU getting the 4 million figure from?
gromit Where did I mention 4 million ?
Question Author
OK, you think 747,285 is the Labour Paty's figure.

Gromit you are dodging my question ! # gromit Where did I mention 4 million ? #
You made statement now back it up .
"Remember also there is no compulsion to answer every question or to even answer the census at all.
Do you know anybody who was presecuted for not filling in the form or failing to answer all the questions. "

It's an offence under section 8 of the Census Act 1920 not to answer the Census questions with the exception of some relating to religion and I do not know anyone who has been prosecuted since I tend not to ask them if they have or no.

Anyway the fact is we are in a better postion than those unfortunate to have been affected by the floods and it does not matter how many Pakistani folk are in this country, we are able to help and some of us have chosen to do so.

Docspock,

At the risk of being pedantic, no one goes around pipping horns during Ramadan, coz they haven't the energy. You are probably referring to eid, which is the festival that follows the end of Ramadan. It is surprising, if you lived in Oldham, you were not aware of your fellow citizens customs. Glodwick seems to be coping without you.

Modeller,

My post was congratulating the British public. Shame you couldn't agree with them.

What does how many Pakistanis living in the UK have to do that?
well I thought it was a good post Gromit, nothing to do with Pakistanis in the UK, and more about the UK public's response to a charitable appeal. I wouldn't have responded if I'd thought it was going to be anything else.
Charity begins at home.......how many other countries will have had a major whip round like Britain has?
Good on anyone whose donated.

There are some who say 'charity begins at home' - my experience of these people is that they don't give to ANY charity.
sp1814......that's because charity begins (and ends) at (my) home
